Title: Jonathan Allen For Heisman?
Post by: Catch Prothro on October 25, 2016, 04:26:22 PM
Apparently JA is picking up steam in Heisman talks this week.  Desmond Howard is one of the proponents; he made the case for Allen on ESPN's College Football Live.  See also:  http://247sports.com/Bolt/Desmond-Howard-makes-case-for-Jonathan-Allens-Heisman-candidacy-48507287

It's not just D. Howard either.  https://www.seccountry.com/alabama/alabama-de-jonathan-allen-for-heisman-the-media-is-at-least-considering-the-possibility

The conversation started a week or two ago, with talk of Jalen Hurts, who (in my opinion) as a true freshman clearly is not Heisman-ready.  But it caused other analysts to look at Bama, and after the Aggies game they realized, "maybe Allen>"

Really, I know we're all (including Allen) more interested in the natty, and a DE's odds of winning are astronomically slim, but it would be cool if JA got some recognition, and a trip to NY, out of it.  That would virtually guarantee a first round draft pick.

I would love to see him win it. I do however think as you said slim chance but he will be a #1 pick no matter. I think we have 2 if not 3 #1 picks on that defense. According to how EJ heals. RTR!

"When you look at a guy like Jonathan Allen, he jumps out at you," Howard said Tuesday on College Football Live.

Amazing!  DH said exactly the same thing that the aTm QB said...

In a year where Lamar Jackson is the only standout offensive player, it would be nice to see a defensive player get an invite to the ceremony.

I don't see anyone but Jackson winning though, unless he tanks in the last month of the season.

Well one thing I think you can bet on. Teams from here on out will double and triple team him. RTR!

"The games in November and the games they remember."

Hard to say at this point.  Fournette was a shoe-in at this time last year....

I don't see Jackson tanking based on Louisville's remaining competition.  But he also won't get much air time.

With Jonathan Allen, it seems some are already looking for other contenders.

Another possibility is Washington's QB if he plays well down the stretch, or Michigan's Peppers.

At present Jackson is far in the lead.
