Title: Alabama Men’s Basketball Holds First Official Team Practice
Post by: pmull on October 01, 2016, 08:16:43 AM
The first practice of the season was Friday morning. CAJ is very upbeat and optimistic about his second season. He is very high on the 5 transfers that will be eligible this year. We will be much deeper this year. CAJ is putting an emphasis on rebounding and ball handling.

Quote
Alabama men's basketball season officially began on Friday with the first practices of the season at the Coleman Coliseum Practice Gym.

The 14-man Crimson Tide team practiced twice on Friday, with the first full practice of the season occurring Friday morning, followed by another session in the afternoon.

Quote
"Our team's been working hard and we've had a pretty grueling off season to say the least," Johnson said. "Our off season program was one that needed to be seriously evaluated. We did it. I like some of the things I experienced in our evaluation, and there were others that we needed to tweak and improve upon. We think we got that done and we think our players are in a little bit better shape and are a little bit stronger. Some are still not where we want them to be from a mental and physical standpoint, but they're young and they're maturing and they're developing so they'll get there.

"Overall, we had good energy in practice this morning. Probably one of our most physical practices that we've had here. We've got a lot of work to do. I like that we have some continuity with guys. We pretty much have a team where everybody's, for the most part, healthy. There are no serious limitations on anybody."

He is very high on Bola. He called him a rebounding machine. An unsized center who has a knack for getting to the ball. CAJ talked about us being 323rd the offensive rebounding last year and how that has to change.

He also spoke highly about transfers Corbin Collins and Nick King. Very possible we could have three transfers in our starting line up.

Dazon Ingram and Shannon Hale are healthy.

Sure sounds good. I know we are not going to be perfect but if we show good improvement rather than like the last coach shoot I will be happy. RTR!

Man, I hope he's 100%. We need him.

First real rebounder since Green, I hope. I still find it amazing at how incompetent Anthony Grant was in developing players or doing much of anything right. It was so obvious.

Grant should have never been here to start with and we all know that. I have never seen what the people that hired him could have ever seen in him? RTR!

Rumors are floating around that Alabama received silent commitments from Alex Reese and Herb Jones yesterday. They were both on campus for their official visit. Rumors are they want to announce at a press conference at their high school. Jones press conference is set for next week.

Reese is a 6-9 225 power forward from Pelham. http://247sports.com/Player/Alex-Reese-80061

Jones is a 6-7 183 shooting guard from Moundville (Hale Co): http://247sports.com/Player/Herb-Jones-86694

CAJ is slowly making a big dent into the recruiting world and it's only a matter of time until the team will again be in that highly recognized circle of teams in the country. It's been a very long time since Bama experienced that.

The most important place to recruit is in-state, which he is doing. Way too much talent left state under Grant.
