Really sad.  Great golfer, great man.  Well, we've still got the Golden Bear.

Many years ago I had the pleasure of a 15 minute phone chat with Arnie and Dow Finsterwald. Both of them were very nice and it ranks as one of the greatest experiences of my many over the years. RIP Arnie.

I was at the 1969 Monsanto Open in Pensacola and Armie was playing. On one of the holes, he hit a shot by a tree where I was standing and it was about 3 feet from me. Arnie walks up and I'm awestruck, frozen, can't move. After a few seconds and I still haven't moved he said "young man, thank you for keeping my ball safe, I'll take it from here". The gallary roared with laughter and I turned 4 shades of Crimson. Was very classy the way he handled that. That's the way he will always be remembered; the classiest of them all.

He was a little ahead of my time. I started playing and following golf in the Nicklaus era. Arnie was a great ambassador for the game my entire life. The game of golf has lost a good one.

RIP

Those were the good ole days. Foreigners have been moving into the game and the money.
