Title: Stephanie Meadow Update
Post by: McBaman on August 27, 2016, 05:55:58 PM
Some of you will remember Stephanie as one of the stars of our ladies NCAA NC golf team a couple of years back.  Since graduating from Bama, she's been working to get her LPGA tour card.  It's been a tough go at times for her but in true Bama style, she's never given up.

This week she's playing in the Canadian Women's Open and doing quite well -- tied for 2nd going into Sunday's final round.  If she finishes (I think) in the top 5 at this tourney she will get her LPGA tour card for 2017.  Let's all pull for her tomorrow. Could be a big day for Steph.

Well done young lady. Praying for your day to really score well and then win it outright. RTR!

She is tied for third going into the final round at -12.2nd place is -15 and the leader is -17.She will need to play well today. They are a lot of players at -8-11 they will be trying to make a move up the leaderboard.

I always like her. She was a very good player for us.

He's having a good year. Last I looked he was ranked around 18th in the world.

She finished even par 72 today for T10 at -12. TV crew had some very good things to say about her. She needed to win $64K this week to get her in the top 100. Top 100 get automatic tour cards and avoids the dreaded Q School. I am not sure how much T10 will pay. I have not been able to find the player payouts yet

Steph won $41,466 according to the LPGA website:

A nice payday, but this leaves her about $23k short of what she needs to avoid Q-school.  I think there are a couple more tourneys where she could still win enough $$$ to get her card, if she can get in them.  (Since she doesn't have a card she isn't automatically "in" tourneys.)

I hate the thought of her having to go through Q-school again.  She missed out last year by one spot, loosing in a playoff for the last card awarded.  I think that was crushing to her and it took her a while to get over that.  Don't want to see that happen again.

I think she is going to be a good player. This was a difficult year for her. She lost her Dad that she was very close to.

Thanks for that last post pmull.  I didn't know about Steph's dad.  Guess that explains why she kinda disappeared for a few months.

I did not know it either. I goggled her this weekend just to get a snapshot of her career since leaving Alabama. Several items popped up about losing her Dad. The article posted below gives you a good idea of how close they were and the difficult time she had dealing with it.

I know FB season has started, but.... Stephanie finished at -1 and tied for 68th in the LPGA Manulife tourney. She won $3350.  Don't know where she is on the money list but maybe she can squeak by and get her card for next year.

She is # 113 on the money list. Top 100 get their card. She has won $58K in only 9 events. The golfers she is competing against has played 17-21 events. The 100th place money is currently $86K.

The ladies do not make the money like the PGA men do.
