Great pics, Chech. Glad you are having such great success. Are y'all cooking any of those or are they all catch and release?

No, catch and release.  I'm not much into keeping fish; fish til dark and eat when you arrive home!  The last 3 nights I've fished daylight to dark.  And I've eaten brisket, elk meatloaf, and prime rib (nightly specials at the local grill/bar).  Great food!!

I notice that the netting on your dip net is made of plastic, that is something that has changed that I think does a great deal of good for catch and release. I think the old cotton netting did a lot of damage to the fish as far as removing the slime from the fish which affected the mortality rate of catch and release. This is from my days of tournament fishing and the catch and release.

  The net also doesn't snag your hook, like the cotton nets do.  As Jamos said, other benefits too.

Travel day today, so fish pics will follow later.  I caught ~20 Rainbow and Brown Trout (all small) in Yellowstone this morning.  Here are some travel pics:

Typical Yellowstone NP Brown Trout (small, and upstaged by the scenery).  I caught ~25 of these, plus a few small Rainbows on Wednesday.

Okay.  I'm using a GoPro, so the scenery can be kinda odd (wide-angle lens).  Maybe I'll try the Canon Camera instead.
 :tinfoil:

Here's one from last year, taken at the same pacle where I fished yesterday.  Danged bison tangled my line!!  That was with the GoPro.  Bison in the image are closer than they appear (casting distance).  :lol2:

It's really cool, Preacher.  Wish you could all see it in person.

Not me, 2.

Today's pics:

Caught ~30 trout, mostly small.  But got a few biggies too.  And I included some scenes for 2.

This white wildflower I named "Aub Coed" (plain, but pretty, and living in bison crap).

Caught this big Brown Trout right after a rain shower.

Rainbow Trout.  A guy named Bill and I were fishing the same stretch of the Firehole River yesterday when I caught this one.  He wasn't catching anything, so we chatted.  He is new to flyfishing, so I gave him a yellow PMD (dry fly; see fish's snout) to try; he started catching.  We talked.  He is an A&M graduate (early 1960s), and grew up in San Antonio.  We talked football and SEC sports, and stayed on that stretch of river for 4 hours, catching a couple of dozen trout each.

Don't totally buy into the hype Preacher. Hunters comprise the largest "army" in the world and the comparison isn't even close.  There is no way that the dumbocrats will ever be able to disarm the American civilians.  Most of those hunters are also fishermen/women too.  We will be able to enjoy the "rights" of hunting and fishing in this country (as long as it remains a country) for longer than any of us or our kids and grandkids will be alive... Yes, we will have some restrictions placed upon us but we will always have those rights...

I wouldn't think 2 would fit in that small net.  :-\ :dunno:

He fit.  But whenever a bigger one bites, I use the net like a scoop, and throw the fish onto the bank.  Helps if you can work him into shallows first.

Watched a grizzly and a black bear catch and eat fish from a small stream.  The stream is right in front of the bear:

Then the grizzly moved closer to us (tourists) and caught fish in some sedges:

After catching several large cutthroat trout, the grizzly walked within 100' of us along Yellowstone Lake:

The bulls didn't like one another (as evidenced by this snout-raising behavior):

Finally the smaller elk moved away from the bully.

Yesterday's fish (Friday)

We fished Hebgen Lake again.  Lots of big Rainbow Trout and a few Brown Trout.  Beautiful scenery there; snow-capped mountains, bald eagles, wildflowers, and lots of water.  We caught a bunch before the wind drove us off the lake.  Here are a few of the best. :lol2:

Bison blocked the road along the Gibbon River, and we sat in traffic for an hour.  BUT, it was a beautiful area - we enjoyed it.

I've never heard of the Mountain Whitefish. How big do they get? The reason I ask is I thought maybe they might serve as a prime source in the food chain for the bigger fish if they don't get very big, such as the shad does for the fish in our area.

They get as big as Smallmouth Bass get: 4-5 lbs.
This trout foodchain centers on insects and insect larvae, and small fish play a minor role for trout.  The fish are full of small larvae, and it seems incredible that they can be sustained by such tiny critters.  But remember; the insects are packed with eggs and other fatty tissue when they emerge from the bottom.  The fish gobble them by the thousands.

Our "flies" mimic the larvae of these midges, and are very simple and tiny:

The live larvae look like worms:

Also caught a (weird) Mountain Whitefish - slimy, squirmy little guy.  :lol2:

Spoken like a true biologist. I guess the old saying of "you never get to old to learn" is a true fact, thank you for my lesson of today.  +1

I've done a little fly fishing but never got the interest in it that I did fishing with bait and spin cast reels. I do know it takes a lot of work in perfecting the art of fly fishing and you seem to have perfected that art.  #+

I've also tried fly fishing, own a rod/reel, but it's pretty challenging when the shores of Alabama streams are lined with trees.   ???

The big ones: 2-3 pounds.  But they pack a punch on a flyrod, jumping and racing around the lake.  Quite fun.

Today (Tuesday) at Ghost Village (Madison River) I caught this fine Rainbow Trout.  It was along this stretch of river where houses washed away following an earthquake during 1959.  Many of the houses' roofs are still along the river banks.
