Title: Basketball Coaching Vacancies Being Filled
Post by: Marshal Dillon on March 29, 2015, 11:37:46 PM
Lavin out at St. John's but a replacement has been located. Miss. State fired Rick Ray & immediately hired Ben Howland.

Just 48 hours after St. John's and head coach Steve Lavin agreed to part ways, the school has already made an offer to a potential successor, according to a report.

In the case of Ray at Miss. State I think they knew by January they would be dumping him. They were able to talk to Howland early since he was not coaching. St. John's could do the same with Mullins.

If you're going after a coach that's not at the big dance then you can move faster.

I'll reserve judgment on how CBB is doing until it's all over.  Remember, Mal tried to hire Rich Rod before he got CNS.

I think it would be funny if Mullin told St John's to go pound sand. They haven't been relevant since Lou Carnesecca was their coach and Lavin brought them back to being respectable. The word is that St John's pretty much told Lavin to look elsewhere, feeling that Mullin was a sure thing to come in and take over the program.

Barnes must be desperate to jump into that dumpster fire.

Oh well, so much for that.

Tennessee needs to save as much money as they can with their budget in the toilet.

Interesting.

Texas basketball finally moved on from Rick Barnes on Monday after 17 years, and it appears the Longhorns may already be zeroing in on their next head coach. Texas and VCU's Shaka Smart are having discussions about the Longhorns' opening, according to CBS' Jon Rothstein.
