Title: Big Bats Lift Softball to Game One Victory, Tide Falls in Game Two
Post by: Jamos on February 28, 2015, 07:48:06 PM
No. 4 Alabama opened its Saturday doubleheader against fifth-ranked Louisiana on a strong note, winning 5-1, but could not secure the series win as the Ragin' Cajuns rallied to win game two, 2-1.

Bama had their chances to win game 2, but the ole dreaded LOBs cost them another game. Timely hitting has been a nuisance for this team all year but it is early in the season and they are playing Top 10 opponents which should improve the team mentally and pay some dividends as the season progresses.

I watched the final inning of the second game. Alabama had runners on 1st & 2nd with 0 outs and could not get them home. They were stranded on 2nd & 3rd to end the game. Baseball was similar. We had the tying run thrown out at the plate in the 9th.

What a weekend of softball as Bama takes two out of three from 5th ranked Louisiana Lafayette andI hate that all of you softball fans didn't get a chance to see them play. Both of the teams were evenly matched on paper and they played that way on the field. I can't say enough good things about the Bama ladies as they played their best ball of the season. I mentioned in an earlier post that the Bama ladies were lacking experience or maybe some maturity and no sooner said than they showed they are growing up as this tough non-conference schedule is paying dividends already.

The game yesterday was a classic battle between two of the better teams in the country with each flexing their muscles at times and neither willing to give in as the Cajuns scored in their half of the 7th inning to tie the game and then Bama came back in their half of the 7th to score a run to win it. This is the kind of play that gets teams to Oklahoma City for a chance at a National Championship.

Bama's schedule doesn't get any easier as the SEC season begins this Friday against Ole Miss at home. Also Bama will travel to Montgomery tomorrow night to play Auburn in the annual Capital City Classic, a non-conference game. Auburn is a very improved team and this game could have a lot of fireworks.

Indeed, excellent assessment of the team, Jamos.  Thanks much.
And keep going to those games as our surrogate.  You make the games fun.
