Title: Auburn v. Kansas State Football Game
Post by: Marshal Dillon on September 17, 2014, 10:26:33 PM
I saw where several fans are picking K. State over Auburn. Are you picking them due to the point spread or you just can't stand picking Auburn? I picked Auburn because I think SEC speed and quickness is too much for K. State.

I picked K State because I don't like picking Auburn.  Plus, their luck has to run out at some point.

They are playing in Manhattan. K State plays very well at home. I don't particularly think they will win, but I think it will be a tight game, like 34-31.

Auburn is better than I expected. There win over Arkansas is looking better after the Hogs beat Texas Tech in Lubbock. K State has not looked like a top 25 team to me. I picked the barn to cover the spread but it hurt.

I wanted to pick K State. The game is in Manhattan and K State has won some big games. The barn plays better as the underdog. They always lay a big turd when they are picked to win a high profile game.

(I am in last place in the pick'em so feel free to ignore this post)

Thursday night game on the road against a ranked team.  K-State has had this game circled all summer.  Might be close.  But clearly I'm no pickem expert.   ???

Breddy picked the barn, so I'm toast on this one. At least my conscience won't bother me.

I read that being toast was first said by Bill Murray in Ghostbusters.

MANHATTAN, Kansas -- Auburn safety Jermaine Whitehead did not travel with the team Wednesday afternoon and will miss the Tigers' nationally-ranked showdown at Kansas State, a school spokesman confirmed.

The senior is Auburn's most experienced defensive back and leads the team with two interceptions, and has played a team-high 122 snaps on defense. He returned one of his interceptions 33 yards for a touchdown in the season opener against Arkansas.

AuburnUndercover.com reports, through "knowledgeable sources," Whitehead got into a verbal altercation with a coach and was subsequently suspended.

Whitehead's status beyond this week is uncertain, according to a source.

Ghostbusters was 1983-4.

This says it might have been earlier: "I seem to remember it from before Ghostbusters; I had always thought it came from football announcers (at least that's where I remember it from). When a reciever beats a defensive back, getting open to catch a pass for a long gain, announcers have long described that as "burning" the defensive back. Somewhere along the line, somebody said, "He's burnt like toast," and that got shortened to "He's toast." "

Interesting to know.  And a long way from "feeling toasty."  I doubt that a defensive back would say he felt toasty after being beat.

I picked auburn because I think they will score more than 9 points in the 1st Quarter. I also think they don't have a QB that can match auburn nor RB's like auburn. The horseshoe that use to be on Urban Meyer neck is now around Gus Malzahn's neck. Auburn and the SEC power to me is just too much for a great coach in Bill Snyder and company. RTR!

I thought his when trying to decide who to pick. No doubt being a home field with a massive crowd of 50,000  :eyeroll: will help K. state, but I think the size, speed, & quickness of Auburn is too much.

The unnamed coach was trying to sneak into Whitehead's room to see if Whitehead was stealing part of the team's cut, but Whitehead caught him and then called the police on him for trespassing.

Money will do that to people. They should have just given the player a pay raise.

I heard this morning that the Aubs haven't beaten a non-conference team on the road since beating Virginia in 1997 - Terry Bowden was their coach.

Not that they play outside driving range of a tractor!

Does it count that the state of Kansas is full of tractors? Could this divert the attention of the Aubs while they marvel at all the tractors?

Some interesting stuff here.

This game has been talked about all summer at Kansas State.

The talk, hype and predictions end tonight when No. 5 Auburn and No. 20 Kansas State kick off at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN.

Before we head to Bill Snyder Family Stadium, check out these links for more on what they're saying about the Tigers and Wildcats in Kansas and across the nation:

Quote
[Auburn’s visit to Manhattan on Thursday is the most-anticipated Wildcats sporting event of the year. The Tigers are the first nonconference opponent with a top five ranking to play at K-State since Penn State did so in 1969. And unlike that game, which K-State lost 17-14, this game will be televised nationally on ESPN.

Tickets have been sold out for months, and they are selling for as much as $600 on the secondary market. K-State’s last two mid-week home football games -- Nebraska in 2010 and North Dakota State last year -- were played in front of electric crowds, despite losses. Decibel levels are expected to exceed both for Auburn.

I picked Auburn because I usually jinx teams I pick. I'm willing to sacrifice my pick em to see the barners lose. But honestly knowing my luck, Auburn wins by less than 9 and I lose on both accounts.

That's where I am too, Ban.  Just hoping for either a KSU upset or a big SEC win!

Sooner or later, he's going to throw a couple of picks & he will lose confidence during the game.
