"We didn't play very well at linebacker," coach Nick Saban said Monday. "We had too many miscommunications, too many missed coverages, too many missed assignments."

The fast-paced West Virginia offense didn't give the fresh faces much time to make calls and adjustments. Foster made seven tackles (second best on the team while Ragland had six stops.

"Even though we tried to make it simple, they did a few different formations and things and sort of got their composure a little bit ruffled," Saban said. "And I think that affected everybody around them."

The good news for Alabama? Saban said the two settled in as the game progressed and West Virginia eventually reined in its fastball offense. Foster had the highlight of the day for the middle linebackers when he stopped Mountaineer running back Rushel Shell for a two-yard loss in the third quarter...

Interesting to hear the inside story on their play.  Whatever the reason, they looked lost during 1st Quarter.  Glad they settled.

Hopefully it will be better with Trey DePriest back (and a weak FAU team)...
