Title: What is the worst call to go against Alabama that you can remember
Post by: pmull on July 26, 2014, 03:23:54 PM
Preston Gothard's catch in the back of the Penn State end zone is mine. The official was right there.

Before I even opened this thread, That is exactly what I thought. The second was the non-pass interference call against UF in 1993, that cost us another chance at an SEC championship and NC.

that was my first thought too. I guess my #2 would be the trapped TD pass against Arkansas in 95 (I think.) I probably remember that one so much cause that was my first game live at BDS too.

looks like everyone agrees on which is number one

#2 for me will be the call to put one second back on the clock , allowing us to
kick a "ill fated" field goal to lose the game because the other team
ran it back for a TD ...

 :wall: :wall: :wall:

didn't that win a Espy ?   :lol2:

maybe not the same definition of "a worst call" as intended but
still a very bad call none the less  ...

The two that stick out that the most to me are Curtis Brown's (I think that was his name, I'm getting older) catch in the end zone against Auburn in '95 that was ruled no catch and the LSU defender who pushed down a Bama receiver and intercepted the pass in the endzone in '06.

One is the Penn State game from 2010, our guy recovered a fumble around Penn's 15 yd line and their player came up and took the ball away from our player who was laying on the ground on his back with the ball in his hands. Next would be the INT call in the LSU game where our player caught the pass and his shoulder hit the ground in the end zone before the LSU player took the ball from him.

Gothard's no TD catch is #1. The 95 Arky game is a close second. That little receiver short hopped that catch. With replay, both of those would have been overturned.

The LSU call was the first one I thought of. But I agree with the Penn State call. Most may know but, the ref that made that call had a nephew of something on the PSU team.

The ref was a Penn State grad. He did almost the identical thing to, I think,  Ohio State a couple of years later, if I remember correctly.

I think hands down whoever made the call to hire DumBose was the biggest blunder, even bigger than hiring Ears Whitworth.
