Title: Computer forum by request
Post by: SUPERCOACH on March 06, 2011, 06:09:34 PM
There were a few of you who wanted a computer forum, so here you go.  I don't know how much activity it will see.  If nobody uses it much we might combine it back with the Quad or something.

I looked at the class schedule and it looks like most of the computer classes are in Paty Hall these days, hence the name.

Is that pronounced "patty" or "paytee"

Not sure.  I never had any classes there.  It may not have even been there back then.  :)

I did take the spelling from the UA site so it should be correct.

It has been a while since I was on XP, but I will try to do this from memory.

Right click on your desktop background.  You should see a menu for properties.  Click on that.

If not, you should be able to go to Start => Control Panel => Display.

That should bring up a screen that looks something like this:

Then click on the last tab that says Settings.  Now you should see this one, which has your screen size in pixels.  Don't change anything, just look at it and then hit cancel.  In this picture the size is 1280 x 1024.

OK great SC I found it. Mine is 1024 x 768. Is that good or bad? Should it be higher or lower? RTR!

That's pretty good resolution.  Are you wanting things bigger or smaller?

You can change your icon size without changing your resolution (I'm pretty sure you can do it in XP).

Well actually general I was just trying to find out my size because the other day when we had the bleeding problem SuperCoach ask me my pixel size and I didn't know. Now since I have found it I will know. The size is right now, so I will leave it. Thanks though for your help. RTR!

I was one of those that requested this forum. No problems. I like reading and learning. BTW, I am having difficulty navigating this board. Replies with quotes seem to bounce up. If I type under a quote box the screen automatically scrolls up, so I cannot see what I am typing without scrolling back down. Also when I post a reply, rather than going back to the reply, it takes me out the the board menu.
I still cannot login without linking from my activation Email. I haven't checked this (tried to log-in normally) for a couple of days, so I am sorry if this has been resolved.

I see that the question was already answered (paytee).

Just wanted to say this thread brought back memories.  When I was a freshman I could look out my window from Abercrombie Hall (the only hall w/out a.c.) and see Paty Hall.  Abercrombie, RIP. :'(

Paty was where the rich kids lived.  Our boys shot cherry bombs from slingshots at them, hated them.  Paty had the only cafeteria among the men's dorms in that region.  The food was terrible.  Men were allowed one serving of entree (green meat), unlimited boiled vegetables, and one small (wilted salad).  They served steak once a semester, parent's weekend (no kidding).

After a short time eating there (and no meal ticket), I started walking across campus to the old Union for breakfast, lunch wherever, and dinner at the women's dorms (usually Tutwiler).  Tutwiler's food was great, unlimited entrees and salad, ice cream (Paty had it on Friday), and a great pacle to meet the coeds.  I gained from 163 to 180 lbs, and had choices of dates every weekend.  Life was good after Paty (indeed "pay" - tee).

it's crazy how far a wrist rocket would shoot a cherry bomb ain't it ?
also crazy was the amount of damage one would do when flushed  :o

great pacle to meet the coeds ? great food too ? choices of dates every weekend ?
I'm proud of you cat  8)

When I was at Brevard, We used a water balloon launcher to shoot fruit at the art building.  Until an unlucky shot caught the big window dead center.   :-[

I guess you are you using Internet Explorer then, is that right?  Go to the Help menu, then click on the About command, then see what version of Internet Explorer you are using.  Each version behaves differently.  If I can get it to happen on one of my computers I should be able to fix it.  I am sure you won't be the only person to see this issue.

Thanks.

I will have to look into the password/e-mail problem.  But for the problem about going back to the board menu there is an option in your profile section that will fix that.  You go to Profile => Modify Profile => Look and Layout Preferences.  There is a picture of the option you need to check over in our first in game basketball thread here:

Not quite.  It is very, very similar but not exactly.  Kind of like a 2003 Ford Mustang is very similar to a 2006 Ford Mustang.  Internet Explorer 7 is a little bit of an older model, but not that old.

The menu could be different.  They change it up from time to time.

As I recall, by 1975 you could select your roomate preference, but dorms were assigned randomly to freshmen.

Yeah, I missed the "look and preferences" section. My bad. Thanks for your patience. I could probably solve my log-in problem by changing my PW but getting on by linking with the activation e-mail is fail safe. Better to use your time for more pressing issues and I'll get back to you later, after the board is more"established". Thanks.

Your time can be better utilized in chasing the troll that posted the male actor/alex stripper pictures in the Daily Thread.
