Found out tonight from tplaw.  Not sure if he was a member here, but he was at the old site.  God bless his family.

He had told us a while back that he was sick. I was concerned when he had not posted in a long time.

RIP (http://www.crimsonredsports.com/index.php?action=dlattach;attach=96;type=avatar)

Sad news indeed.  Double nickel had relayed the message over on another site, and I came here to see if it had been posted.  He made some nice contributions here in the early days, IIRC.

Prayers for his family.

Lord you have taken your child our friend home. All these Angels belong to you. Now put your hands on his family and let the mourning period with strength and in covered in your love. Let the memories always be in our hearts and minds. In the name of JESUS we pray. AMEN

Cancer sucks. Jay was such a real person, funny, die-hard conservative, generous, and well connected in the Bama football camp (as you'll notice from some of his prior posts).  While I only saw him face to face once, we talked quite a bit over the past 2 years.

He turned me on to this website...

Please pray for his wife Kathryn and his young son Caleb.

He went way too soon. I know he is with the Lord and look forward to seeing him again on the other side.

Jay was a great family man and a great friend. We talked many times about my
COPD and his cancer. I lost both my parents to cancer (lung) and knew a little about what he
was dealing with.  Though it's a sad day for the bama nation losing our friend, take heart
he is no longer suffering in a better place.

Cancer is a terrible thing, especially when it takes somebody so young.  :(

this ... to me anyway ... sums up my friend from Jackson Al.
and how I will remember him

Quote
Jay and I met at one of those company dinner get-togethers (I think Christmas) where we were the male spouses in attendance. All of the women spouses were doing ther thing and me and Jay were just sitting there. Finally we started talking and found out that we were both sailors in the worlds greatest Navy. The rest is history. The party came alive. The table we were sitting became the table to be at and we had a blast. Somone won a bottle of Jack Daniels (Honey). Though we were not supposed to, we opened it anyway. The restaurant wanted to end the party on us. After that company dinners were never the same. Everyone knew that Jay and Roy would sit together. Company dinners will never be without you Jay. Rest in Peace my brother.

met Muddy at Naval Air Station Patuxent River. We played softball together on the Chief's team for 2 years. He was no Babe Ruth but boy did he have the heart of a champion! Any time he would make an error in the field or not hit the ball well he would get down on his self and we would always try to get him to get over it, which proved to be no easy task. Now when he did make a good play or get a good hit you could see his face light up. I think if everyone on the team had his heart we would have been unbeatable. For those that knew him this is no surprise, but Jay was that person that would do anything for you. Jay also was a huge Crimson Tide fan and well I'm not, but Jay this one is for you. Roll Tide! Muddy you were a good friend and a brother to all of the Chiefs that knew you. You will be greatly missed! Rest in peace my brother.
