On a day when a $75,000 check from the Nick's Kids Fund was presented to go toward building a 14th house in honor of Alabama's 14th national championship, talk turned Thursday toward building on the grounds of the Crimson Tide's football complex.

Ground is being moved on three practice fields. The entrance to the indoor football practice building has been torn down.

What's up? ...

If you can afford it, why not!

I imagine Trent broke all the equipment when he was using it anyway. Need new machines.  ;)

To be a top tier program you have to have a top tier weight room. If CNS thinks we need a new weight room I say build him one and furnish it like no other in the country.

Bama built a new weight room a year or so before Saban arrived.  As for furnishings, first thing he did was remove the televisions.

Saban said it's important to keep facilities from falling behind those of rival schools.

"When people come to Alabama, they expect to see the best," he said. "We should always strive to have the best. As long as we have the resources and we can provide the best for our student-athletes, that's what we should do in all sports."

I agree with CNS.

How can anyone question the wants and needs of CNS with the success he has had at Bama.  ???  :dunno:

Don't we need a new ballpark?

Yes we do. A new park or major renovation. That has to be a priority for CMM. I saw an architectural rendering recently of proposed renovations so it is being discussed but not finalized.

A new ballfield was lobbied for a few years back but the HC got outvoted and the university renovated the existing field which cost a huge sum of money and really didn't give the team what they needed. There was also plenty of property at that time to build a new field in the Rec Center area but a lot of that has now been used up. No doubt that was a terrible decision by Mal and company. CNS is now very involved with the WHOLE athletic program in helping it grow and I think something good will happen for the baseball team down the road. A new coach probably would be a start and more money for the scholarships.

The campus NEEDS a fishing lake.  Palmer Lake was always just a place to hit worn-out golf balls or toss coke machines that steal money (we did that once).  We need to expand, add a marina, a beach, a beach bar, etc.  Get the architecture guys working on it.

Didn't that get you moved to Byrd Hall?

For real, right?

Just give the man what he wants and get on with  it.

I do think Saban pretty much has carte blanc at Alabama.  It started when Mal Moore hired him -- basically handing Saban a blank piece of paper and saying, "write down what you want."

But I'm glad Saban has been given such input.  He has a good head on his shoulders and has made some great decisions.  I do think he was involved in the move from Gottfried to Grant, and he helped sway Grant to choose Bama over other offers, including Georgia.
