Title: Statues Post by: lstephen on June 07, 2012, 08:34:40 PM Given all the money the athletic department (football) makes, why shouldn't there be a policy that ANY coach who wins a national championship gets a statue. Sure, it would maybe be a budget buster this year, but how often does this year happen? This is a real accomplishment and should be recognized!
Anyhow, ROLL TIDE!!! Title: Re: Statues Post by: SUPERCOACH on June 07, 2012, 09:35:12 PM I agree.
Title: Re: Statues Post by: Jamos on June 08, 2012, 06:19:43 AM I think the university is very much aware of the presure of the Bama fan base to recognize these coaches for their accomplishments and I also think that we will see something happen in the near future starting with Sarah Patterson. CPM will have his recognition at the softball field in time as well.

CSP certainly deserves to have first dibs on any new honors (be it a statue or whatever) Title: Re: Statues Post by: gottfriedsucks on June 08, 2012, 01:01:40 PM Given all the money the athletic department (football) makes, why shouldn't there be a policy that ANY coach who wins a national championship gets a statue. Anyhow, ROLL TIDE!!! it is what it is in football, but I am kind of old school and think that is something you do to honor them after they retire or even after they are dead and gone or what have you. I mean, how embarrassing is it if you honor them with something like that and then they do something horrible? Then you look like a jackass when you tear it down? For example, (not saying he would) but what if Saban did something terrible and had to be fired? Here we are with a statue up for the guy? Thats kind of my feeling on it. Right, Paterno's statue has been vandalized and they're talking about removing it. Title: Re: Statues Post by: Old Tider on June 09, 2012, 12:37:11 PM Things could get crowded on campus.

Right, Paterno's statue has been vandalized and they're talking about removing it. I understand your sentiments but we can't not honor them just because they might commit some kind of indiscretion in the future. In my humble opinion, they have earned the honor of having their image cast in bronze. And if they do something stupid in the future, we'll deal with it then. |
