Last year was a glaring example of what can happen if the play-off teams are limited by conference championships. There is no argument from any reasonable observer that BAMA proved itself the very best in college football. The Big 10 commissioner is using fairness as a excuse to keep 2, maybe 3 or 4 SEC teams from being selected ahead of the rust belt kids.

He seems to be taking a swipe at Alabama/The SEC, as well as the Big12.  It might help his argument if a Big10 team could actually win against those conferences.

I continues to amaze me that this guy (and a few others) fail to imagine that two of the top four teams could come from the same division in THIER conf's.  Guess they are blinded by their jealousy and hatred of SEC.

Don't think Slive and some of the others will go along with this "division winners only" idea.  And that may mean we keep the status quo, or that BCS as we know it, ends.  So be it.  Some bowl somewhere will work hard to match the top two rated teams from the polls.

He's the Big Ten Commissioner. What else can he do. He knows there is no way the Big Ten will ever get 2 teams in the top 4. In fact, he is worried about getting 1 team in the 4.

My concern is everyone except the SEC voting that only conference champions can play for the NCAA championship. They have to find a way to slow down the SEC. Their worst nightmare would be to get LSU in the first round bowl game with the winner playing Alabama.

We have to hope there are enough people out there that want to see the 4 best teams, regardless of who they are, play for the championship.

The idea of not allowing a team to the play-offs unless the team won their conference has nothing to do with selecting the 4 best teams. The AP, Coaches, and BCS polls completely ignore conference standings. Lou Holtz is the idiot that kept saying that last December. He'd say it, someone would explain to him why he is an idiot, then he'd say it again. Lou Holtz is a worthless, old piece of furniture.

It won't be long before these other conferences will make further stipulations. Teams that were there last year cannot participate again. An auto bid if school scores over 80 pts in a game. Coolest uniforms. Having a loss to a 40 pt. underdog. Never stopping a drive defensively, all season long, etc..

I say CNS has evolved beyond using newspaper clip art for bulletin board fodder.   He has these guys developing the mindset that they have to compete, tenaciously, with their own performance of the week before. Instead of digging through the AJC or the Times Picayune, players now compete against themselves in a quest for perfection. LOL- Our opponents are not relevant enough to deserve space on our bulletin boards.
