Title: "Tide punter Cody Mandell's busy day draws praise from Nick Saban" Post by: Chechem on April 15, 2012, 05:37:47 AM http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2012/04/tide_punter_cody_mandells_busy.html
Quote Cody Mandell might never have a busier day at the office than he did at Saturday's A-Day game. Mandell, Alabama's junior punter, pulled double duty. He punted eight times for the Crimson team and eight times for the White team. All told, he amassed 706 yards off his boots, good for an average of 44.1..... "He's really punted better all spring. We always felt like Cody really had the ability to do it, it was just consistency," CNS said... Title: Re: "Tide punter Cody Mandell's busy day draws praise from Nick Saban" Post by: Jamos on April 15, 2012, 06:37:22 AM After I watched an earlier scrimmage, I reported to you all that I thought the kickers and punters were showing some improvement from last year. Well, after the first few kicks from Mandell and Foster yesterday, they had me wondering if maybe I had been wrong with that statement but then things changed. Mandell put on an exhibition, consistent kicks, of something that I haven't seen from a Bama punter in quite sometime. He was booming punts up to almost 70 yards in distance and as a fan, we haven't seen much of this lately.
Foster started getting the ball to the end zone on his kickoffs as I had seen him doing in the earlier scrimmage. He also added a long field goal, 40+ yards, to his stats for the day. I've got my fingers crossed that this next season will be a much better season for Bama's kicking game, something that they have been in dire need for. At least we'll kick off from the 35 this year; gotta help. He is doing it now and watch once the season starts, I believe he can compete for the Ray Guy Award this year. RTR!
