The annual spring game provides an open canvas for a college football coach. He's given carte blanche to exercise whatever level of creativity he desires.

When it comes to all the various types of spring scrimmage formats, Alabama coach Nick Saban said he's been there, done that throughout his 40-year coaching career. He's pitted the first-team offense against the second-team defense, he's used a hybrid scoring system and he's even let the players and coaches pick their own teams.

Saban said Thursday that he's seen enough spring game formats and he's seen enough from this year's team to yet again keep Saturday's A-Day game at Bryant-Denny Stadium simple. The first-team offense will be on one team and the first-team defense will be on the other.
