When you look at Bama's past history, Mike Dubose, Mike Price, Wimp Sanderson, and Mark Gottfried. Did any of them get any forgiveness of what they did, no, and Petrino didn't deserve any better either.

Once the AD learned that Petrino was having an affair before she was hired (and he served on the search committee), it was pretty much over. He already knew Petrino lied to him about the accident and covered the affair. Then when he learned of the payment ("gift") of $20,000 to the "young lady" by Petrino, it made his decision easier. There is no way Petrino could have recovered from this. It was only a matter of time. They did the smart thing by cutting their losses and moving on to search for the next guy.
