Title: Alabama QB A.J. McCarron has a productive first scrimmage
Post by: pmull on March 31, 2012, 04:25:01 PM
Quote
Nick Saban said Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron played "well" and was "very commanding" during Saturday's scrimmage at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

McCarron threw for 290 yards and three touchdowns in the Crimson Tide's first of three spring scrimmages. He was the top producer on an offense that Saban said struggled to run the ball.

"I don't know if that means the defense is stopping the run pretty or we can't run it," Saban said.

Overall, though, Saban liked what he saw from the scrimmage.

I don't know what to think about that.  Good for AJ I guess, bad for the defense.

Well it sounds like as great as our backs are the defense is not as weak as we might think. If we can't run but throw sometimes it all sounds good. RTR!

Unless you are there you don't know what these numbers mean. It could be AJ was going against the 2nd team. The thing I took from the article was CNS was unhappy with the running game. I know EL is out but our OL should be opening some holes for whoever is running the ball. I thing that speaks well for the defense.

Hard to know anything for sure without knowing the sit-reps. Sunseri continues to impress. 'Lotta guys, workin' hard', CNS.

Anytime Bama has the 1's against the 1's the numbers will suffer. It was pretty intense when they worked on scoring in the red zone and running the 2 minute drill, there were some good licks passed.

The only way Bama could drive the ball against LSU's great defense was establishing that first down pass.  LSU stuffed the rush before then.  You have to assume that AJ is better now, the OL is experienced, and there are several options at receiver, so I don't see this as a knock on the D.  Still, it appears that Bama's secondary might need some work.
