Title: Alabama softball tries to regroup after loss to Vols
Post by: Jamos on March 23, 2012, 08:00:25 AM
The loss to Tennessee didn't surprise me that much and it was probably a good thing for the team. I said earlier in the year that I didn't think this team was a number one team yet. I've watched them struggle at the plate against what I thought were mediocre pitchers and as of right now they have only one proven pitcher themselves. I think that Jury will be ok as she matures into the SEC level of play but right now, she is not mentally tough enough to beat the teams of Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and LSU. Hoprfully she came away with something, other than her first loss of the season, from the Tennessee game.

For Bama to beat the teams mentioned above, they have to get better with their bats. Braud is having a bad season so far as their leadoff hitter and she is a must for this team to be successful.

I wouldn't be surprised if we drop a game or two this weekend.  Murphy will try to empty the bench for sure (during non-league play) to help alleviate the fatigue of the starters through this tough stretch.

The Renfroe sisters are pretty good. We will not see pitching any better than against Tenn. The barn team has improved. I'm sure they want to beat us. I wish this was a three game weekend series rather than a mid-week double header.

Jamos is right, we need a second pitcher to step up. Jury looks good at times but she will struggle against the upper tier SEC teams. Given a little time and more experience she will be very good.

I've been a little disappointed in our defensive play.  We look sloppy and out of focus at times.  Although we were officially charged with 2 errors, there were at least 3 other plays where our infield did not make the play a championship player makes.  In addition to the error she was charged, Hunt let one bounce by her instead of getting in front of it and Hays muffed one hit to her and she made a terrible throw to the wrong side of home plate which allowed a run to score.

A agree with Jamos, we are not a National Championship  team at this point.  Too many little things are not being done well or consistently.

I think the early season success we had with our hitting masked some of the problems we are seeing now.

That being said I think we are a good team with lots of talent, but we are not a dominate team...yet.

Didn't mean for this to sound too critical... 26-1 ain't bad.

I'm glad you pointed out the 26-1 record because I was about to.  :D
