Title: Alabama baseball drops second straight/Today's in-game
Post by: Jamos on February 19, 2012, 09:18:10 AM
It hasn't been much fun watching the team so far. They should have won the first game but yesterday they were never in the game. I give FAU credit though, they have played very agressive baseball, sacrificing runners, stealing bases, timely hitting, made very few fielding errors and has had some pretty good pitching. Bama on the other hand has done very little of the above mentioned. Maybe today things will be better.

I will say though that Bama had better pitching in the first game and a huge throwing error by the third baseman cost them that game.

Jamos, have you gone to the games? I can't tell from CBS Gametracker if we are hitting the ball hard right at people or if we are just not hitting the ball. We have to score more than two runs a game. If we are hitting the ball hard they will start falling in for hits. I was expecting a better offensive team this year and so far I have not seen it. I do think FAU is a good team but so is every team in the SEC.

Yeah, I saw all of the first game and 4 innings yesterday. In the first game, Bama hit the ball hard the first 4 innings but except for Dugas they were hit right at someone. It was one of those games where the ground balls that FAU hit found a hole into the outfield and Bama's was right at someone. Dugas has really been stinging it, most are hard hit line drives. The new bats so far hasn't been much differen t from the old ones as far as the long ball is concerned.  Yesterday Bama had a chance to sacrifice runners on base but they had not even tried to bunt before I left, this is something they must do if you don't have batters hitting the long ball.  This is something that FAU did a very good job in doing and it helped with their run production. The lefty that started the first game looked very poised, he did a good job moving the ball around on the batters and had a decent offspeed pitch. The bullpen hasn't been that impressive at all. FAU has some good hitters and haven't had much trouble with Bama's relievers.

Bama trailing FAU 4-1 in the bottom of the 4th, have runners at 2nd and 3rd with 1 out.

Bama fails to score, pop fly to 2nd baseman and a hard grounder that 2nd baseman made the play on ended the inning.

2 of the 4 runs for FAU are unearned.

FAU started the 5th with a hit, then the pitchers pick off attempt gets past the first baseman and runner goes to second, flyball to center for first out, wild pitch by the pitcher and runner goes to third, base hit and the runner scores. Pitcher walks the next man and runners at 1st and 2nd with one out. Changing pitchers. New pitcher gets a ground out for the 3rd out.

FAU leads 5-1

I did all of this to kind of show you how things have gone for Bama in this series.

Finally some offense. Roberts hits a 3 run HR. We are down 5-4 but we are still batting in the 5th.

Bama loses 9-4. We scored 4 runs on 6 hits. FAU scored 9 runs on 16 hits.

We start the season 0-3. Things can only get better from here. We have Arkansas-Pine Bluff coming to Tuscaloosa next weekend.

Alabama is off to its first 0-3 start since 1952. This is the first time it has lost every game of a three-game nonconference series at home. The last time it lost all three games in a nonconference series was in 2001 when it was swept at Central Florida.

Alabama never led in the series. Florida Atlantic outscored Alabama 23-8 in the three games and had 39 hits to the Tide's 20.

Apparently there is lots of room for improvement.

Apparently there is lots of room for improvement.

Bama should have scheduled someone easier for their season opener, FAU is a pretty good baseball team and Bama is a very young team and they were nowhere near ready to play them.
