Title: Baseball Opens 2012 Campaign at Home against FAU Post by: Jamos on February 17, 2012, 07:14:51 AM The Alabama baseball team opens the 2012 campaign on Friday night against the Florida Atlantic Owls at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. First pitch for game one of the three-game series is slated for 6:05 p.m. The series continues on Saturday when the teams square off at 3:05 p.m., and Sunday marks the end of the series with first pitch slated for 12:05 p.m.

CMG is starting a freshman on the mound tonight, it will be a very interesting season this year. If these young pitchers can get off to a good start, I like Bama's chances. I think it may take getting some games under their belts for them to find themselves, but I'd love to see those young pictures get off to a good start. It is a big step from HS to college but CMG thinks he is ready. He comes to Alabama highly recruited. I hope he has a good outing and get some confidence going for him.
The talk so far has been we will be a better hitting team this year. CMG has said that does not mean more HR's but expect more doubles with line drives hitting the outfield gaps. I am ready to see what the new bats will do. It has to help. Nike is out of the college bat business for now anyway. We should be a good offensive team. We need a good strong series and get this year started right. Our reliver, Pilkington, gave up 4 runs in the 5th. A bigger concern is we have 2 hits and 0 runs batting in the 6th. We trail 5-0. If not for a bad throw by the third baseman on a two out routine ground ball Bama wins this game. I like the lefty that started the game, he knows how to move the ball around on the batters. FAU is a good baseball team, or seemed that way tonight, they really go up to the plate swinging and play pretty good D.
