Title: A few years can make all the difference in recruiting Post by: 2Stater on February 15, 2012, 08:44:45 PM http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2012/02/a_few_years_can_make_all_the_d.html
Quote The top running back prospect going into the '08 prep season was Bryce Brown out of Wichita, Kan. (Trent Richardson ranked 29th, but to be fair, he was coming off a seven-game junior season). Brown became the crown jewel in Kiffin's one recruiting class. But just like Kiffin, Brown was one-and-done. He rushed for a pedestrian 460 yards backing up Monterio Hardesty, then left the program. He wound up at Kansas State, sat out a year, ran the ball a grand total of three times and then quit again. Recently, he applied for this year's NFL draft. The smart decisions just keep on coming, don't they? Good article on the "Kiffin effect". Title: Re: A few years can make all the difference in recruiting Post by: Catch Prothro on February 16, 2012, 10:02:26 AM To succeed, it takes ability, hard work, drive, and good coaching. That's where character comes in. A player can have tons of ability but lack the motivation to apply himself. Conversely, a player of average ability but tons of character can be successful if he works hard and sticks with it. One of the reasons Saban is successful is that he tries to recruit character. The players know up front that a lot of hard work is required if they ever expect to play, so the types of players who don't want that either are not recruited or go elsewhere. Still, recruiting is like a box of chocolates.
