Title: This won't be same LSU offense, Herbstreit says

Quote
"I think the safeties in run support are going to be really important," Herbstreit said. "They've got to be able to get to the edge against the option, whether they're taking Jefferson or they're taking the pitch, according to their responsibility.
"That being said -- and this is the tricky part of it when you're defending the option -- you've got to be very disciplined with your eyes. If there's any group of guys that is most important in this game, it's the Alabama safeties, Lester and Barron. Because you can get lulled to sleep pretty easily by thinking run, run, run, run. You're coming up and all of a sudden (Jefferson is) coming down the line of scrimmage and he drops back and he's looking for Rueben Randle on a post behind you and he tries to throw it over your head.
"So eye discipline will be a big thing ... for the linebackers as well, but mainly the safeties have got to play with a tremendous amount of discipline or they could give up a big play in the passing game."

I can't remember who said it in an earlier post, but I agree that Bama will play the "Tebow" defense, where the rushing defenders do not run past JJ, to keep containment. I also think Bama will change things on offense as well, by using a 3 receiver set to keep LSU from loading up the box against TR. This game will be more of a chess match than the first game for both teams and I would think that both teams will attempt at least 2 trick plays.

IMO, LSU will start strong due to the home field crowd push. I think we play catch-up football and that it is crucial that everyone executes assignment football, with maximum precision. Bama will take control in the 2nd half. I think TR, DH, JW and AJ will be on a mission in this game. I hope Honeyhuffer is targeted for an azz whooping after showing the world what a cheap-shot player he is after his thug-like antics on Dre in the last game. I think TR will bi*ch slap him worse than Nico Thorpe.

Bama will be holding the chrystal trophy to Okey State, LSU and everybody elses dismay, tomorrow night. RTR!!!!!

I think this game may be more like the 1st one, the more I think about it. Not 9-6, but we moved the ball well. We must finish. Also can't give 15/20 yard runs to JJ. It might be a big hit on him like in 09. Bring Lee in and finish it.

I think CNS may put a spy on JJ like he did against Tebow in '09 (Rolo )Prolly Donta' this time. Until JJ gets rid of the ball it is Donta's job to get to him, every play.Nothing other than knock JJ into last week, so when this week rolls around again, he'll have something to dread.

I think it will be really important to hit Jefferson every play we can. Whether he completes the pass or pitches, we have to hit him and take him to the ground every time. If we do, there is no way he will beat us. JMO.

I'd really like to see what hsc says but I think a spy should come from the middle-- maybe Nico? JMHO

Nico would be a good choice.  I do think they may change it up if it is a throwing down, then it could be DH if CJM is in the game.  Also, I could see DH with his hand on the ground and NJ in there with CJM, then again NJ could be the spy.

Well the big day has finally arrived and everybody has figured out what Bama must do to win the game. I hope the team has watched the Miami/Bama game in 1992 and understand what an underdog can do and must do to win, it's all about being mentally ready and playing 60 minutes of intense football. Roll Tide!!!!

Agreed.  Except, I thought we were favored this time!  :(

Jefferson is better passing when rolling to the right.  Not as accurate when rolling to the left.  So I think that may be a pressure point, keeping contain on the left side of the defense (offensive right side).  LSU also runs the same play twice in a row, first to one side then to the other if the first one was successful.

On offense, Bama got more plays from the tight ends, especially Smelly, in the two games after LSU than in the first 10 games.   Smelly was open in the middle a couple of times against LSU, AJ either missed him or didn't have the time.  So I'd look for Smelly to play a big role this game.

Good insights.

Bama came out as the dog but it has since changed in Vegas but I think the general public still looks at Bama as the dog.

They may not have the same offense, but we will still have the same defense.
