The Alabama men's basketball team solved its outside shooting problems in the second half of its Monday night game against New Mexico in the National Invitational Tournament.

Mainly, it stopped shooting from outside. Not entirely, with three 3-point baskets, but enough to pull away from the Lobos for a 74-67 win that puts the Crimson Tide into a quarterfinal matchup against the Miami Hurricanes on Wednesday night.

After a foul-plagued first half, the Crimson Tide shot 75 percent (15 of 20) in the second half and held off a late New Mexico flurry that netted 14 points in the final 2:51.

Tony Mitchell had 23 points, including three crowd-pleasing dunks in the second half, and freshman point guard Trevor Releford equalled his career high with 20 points.

"For a team that doesn't make a lot of jump shots, they do a great job of getting the ball in the basket in the paint," said New Mexico coach Steve Alford. "Outside of Davis, it is hard to find a guy who can really stroke the ball, but their staff has done a good job of finding a way to score."

Back-handed compliments, no?

No, just stating the obvious. Same thing many of us have said the last two years.    :)

I don't think so.  I think it was just unchecked candor.  Not as diplomatic an observation of another team as some coaches would make, but it is hard to argue that it is completely off the mark.
