Title: Welcome to the SEC Missouri, but.................
Post by: Yellow Pup on December 27, 2011, 10:16:23 AM
Attendance was announced at 41,728 tickets sold, but there might have been only about 5,000 fans in the stands.

This bowl game is one of about a dozen or so bowls which should be abolished.  Why reward mediocre teams with post season games. Gee, we're gona get to see two 6-6 teams in the Music City Bowl Friday.

There are 35 bowl games, and obviously 70 bowl teams, out of 120 total FBS teams.  58% of all teams go to bowls.  Something isn't right about that for sure.  I think it should be cut down to 25-30% of teams.

You never see many tourists going to Shreveport for fun and games. The best I ever got there was a Whataburger.

Didn't make a stop at the Horseshoe in Boosier City?

I never make many stops in Louisiana other than New Orleans. I lived a couple of years in Baton Rouge, which is a spooky place.

At a minimum a bowl team should have a winning record. Most of those 6-6 teams will be 6-7 when they lose the bowl game. You do not have to be very good to go 7-5 (insert your barn joke here).

This thread is right on target. Back in the day these things were all in warm and interesting places, and the teams had winning records which made them worth seeing for non-partsans and fans alike. They were also worth watching on TV. So the local and TV revenue made them good business. Now there are just too many, and only the old venerable ones are worth going to or watching on TV. I bet if the NCAA allowed a winter practice period whether you were bowl bound or not, teams would start declining offers to cheesy bowls.

ESPN showed a sign at the game last night from the LSU Athletic department to  Missouri Athletic department welcoming them to the SEC. A class move.

Add in the fact that one bowl this year will feature a 6-7 team (UCLA). Really? Was the Pac-12 so desperate to fill up a bowl slot that they waived the .500 record rule for the Bruins? Boy, that is a matchup that I am looking forward to: 6-7 Ucla vs. 6-6 Illinois.
