The women's basketball team (17-14) will look for its second win of the postseason on Sunday as the Crimson Tide is slated to take on Northwestern (19-13) in the round of 32 of the Women's National Invitation Tournament. Tipoff in Welsh-Ryan Arena is slated for 2 p.m. CT.

"We are excited about having the opportunity to continue our season as we head to Chicago to take on Northwestern," Alabama Head Coach Wendell Hudson said. "I thought, for the most part, we played really well in our first game of the tournament, and we are looking to build on that Sunday."

Talk about Nobodies Interested Tournament. If the parents of the players show up I'll be surprised.

Sorry ladies, but women's basketball is terrible.  It's just painful to watch.  Maybe they should lower the goal so it's more of the same sport?

Did they invent that sport just for Title IX or did it exist before?

They're getting better.  Making it into the NIT and winning their first game on the road at Memphis has to count for something.

The only thing I need to know is do they wear a crimson uniform and does it say University of Alabama on it somewhere.  If the answer is yes then I am a huge fan.

I would pull for a hill billy scholars bowl team if they represented THE University.

This.

I just looked at the stats comparison for the two teams and Alabama can win this game.  It looks like a pretty even match-up.

It looks like this thread died at halftime.

Bama beat Northwestern 72-70. They are now in the NIT Sweet 16.

We have a young team. These games and the tournament setting will be good for them.

Here is the story.

Alabama edges Northwestern in second round of Women's NIT

Senior Tierney Jenkins sank a layup after pulling down an offensive rebound with seven seconds left, lifting Alabama (18-14) to a 72-70 victory over Northwestern (19-14) on Sunday in the second round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament at Evanston, Ill.

The Crimson Tide will visit Toledo in the Sweet 16 of the 64-team tournament at 6 p.m. CDT Tuesday.

"We wanted to take the last shot and not give Northwestern an opportunity to score," Alabama coach Wendell Hudson said. "Our team played as hard as they could play today. It was a hard-fought game all around with two teams that wanted their seasons to continue. Fortunately, we came up on the winning end. I am really proud of this team, and I think we grew up a little more today."

Bama has a good chance in this game. Toledo lost to Nortwestern, the team Bama just beat, earlier in the season.

I didn't realize the ladies NIT was a 64 team tourney. The men's side is only 32, if I remember correctly.

Toledo beat the barn in auburn so they are a pretty good team. I certainly want to see our girls go a long way in this tourny.
