Title: Alabama Basketball
Post by: Marshal Dillon on November 21, 2011, 07:47:35 PM
I had thought before the season started that this could be a really good year for Tide BB. Now, after the fine play from Puerto Rico, I am convinced we can be a top 3 team in the SEC and an NCAA Tourney team. One site I looked at had Alabama as a 6 seed in the tourney. I think the Tide goes 22-8 to 24-6 in the regular season. I base this on three returning starters in Releford, Mitchell, & Green. We have maybe the best point guard in the SEC in Releford and an excellent post player in Green. Plus, Mitchell is an excellent all around small forward who has developed an outside shot. What do you all see for the regular season?

I'm with you, MD. Plus with all the freshman talent, Bama should have a good solid team by tourny time. They are already pretty impressive.

We still have some very tough non-conference games. I will predict 12-4 in conference play. We have a good shot at 24-6 with 22-8 being worst case. If we go 24-6 and make some noise in the SEC Tournament we can get a 3 or 4 seed. At this point a 6 seed looks high to me. We need to stay healthy.

Do we have a ranked team on our non-conf sched? I said yesterday that some of these teams may be ranked by year end helping our SOS.

None of of non-conference scheduled teams are ranked this week. Kentucky (2), Florida (9) and Vandy (22) are ranked. Our SOS will be good. The SEC is much stronger this year. Most of non-conference teams will be top 100 with no one outside the top 200.

When does the RPI rating start coming out? Is it after Christmas?

I think we go 12-2 non-con and 12-4 in the SEC which would be 24-6 for the regular season. I think the SEC will have a banner year. Right now, there are 5 good-looking teams, Vandy, Kentucky, Florida, Miss. State, and Bama. I haven't made up my mind about Georgia, yet. I think when the season ends, our SOS will be in the 30's. I was impressed with the play of freshmen Nick Jacobs at power forward/center, and Levi Randolph as the off guard/small forward.
