Title: Derrick Thomas and Cornelius Bennett question... Post by: double nickel on November 21, 2011, 11:44:08 AM Where would these all time Bama greats fit into a Nick Saban defense? Do you think they would be able to play linebacker or would they be used somewhere else?
I pray that MFBATR gets to square up on the Honey T-Bagger in the open field like that Title: Re: Derrick Thomas and Cornelius Bennett question... Post by: SUPERCOACH on November 21, 2011, 11:52:18 AM Good question. My guess would be that he would use them a lot like Courtney Upshaw.
Title: Re: Derrick Thomas and Cornelius Bennett question... Post by: hscoach on November 21, 2011, 11:54:12 AM I agree both could play in his scheme.

My guess would be that he would use them a lot like Courtney Upshaw. ^^^This^^^ They would make All-American and go to the NFL after their junior year. Post by: pmull on November 21, 2011, 01:04:12 PM In no way am I saying they were not good enough to play with this defense, I just am not sure they were the size to play linebacker I just looked their size and weight when they played in the NFL. I'm sure they were a little smaller in college. Thomas 6'-3" 255 lbs Bennett 6'-2 237 lbs Pretty good size and excellant speed. Title: Re: Derrick Thomas and Cornelius Bennett question... Post by: hscoach on November 21, 2011, 01:22:48 PM At the time they played they were "big" for their size. Also, since then weight training has improved drastically. I am sure they would meet the standards today if they were playing in this era. What is JH size?
Title: Re: Derrick Thomas and Cornelius Bennett question... Post by: Hannibal Lecter, MD on November 21, 2011, 01:26:40 PM I think by the end of his career, "Biscuit" was several biscuits over 237.

For some reason, I always thought Biscuit was bigger than 237. Title: Re: Derrick Thomas and Cornelius Bennett question... I looked the information on Bennett up at the link below. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/B/BennCo00.htm Title: Re: Derrick Thomas and Cornelius Bennett question... They had awesome speed but I just thought it would be interesting to get peoples thoughts. Title: Re: Derrick Thomas and Cornelius Bennett question... It won't change again, I have used that avatar since 2006. With regard to size, I doubt the sizes listed for both DT and Biscuit were correct because they tended to over inflate player size then. Title: Re: Derrick Thomas and Cornelius Bennett question... Post by: Jamos on November 21, 2011, 02:50:30 PM Derrick Thomas was a great football player but as a father to how many children with how many women, I lost all of my respect for him. It just wasn't the way I was raised. :-[
Title: Re: Derrick Thomas and Cornelius Bennett question... Post by: Hannibal Lecter, MD on November 21, 2011, 03:13:42 PM DT might have been a more athletic version of Erik Anders. Biscuit could be CJ Mosely?

It just wasn't the way I was raised. :-[ Derrick was not married and had 7 kids by several different women. I don't respect that side of DT. Derrick also had a good side. The people of Kansas City loved him. He was always doing community service work. He was the NFL Man of the Year in 1993 and won the Humanitarian Award in 1995. He has a charter school in Kansas City named after him The Derrick Thomas Academy. I had a lot of respect for Derrick Thomas. |
