Title: BCS leaders begin examination of possibly altering format Post by: Coach Hank Crisp on November 15, 2011, 06:56:08 AM http://content.usatoday.com/communities/campusrivalry/post/2011/11/bcs-leaders-begin-examination-of-possibly-altering-format/1
Quote Change in college football's Bowl Championship Series is at least being weighed. conference commissioners and college presidents who oversee the controversial postseason system touched on a number of options, including a mini-playoff in the form of a new "plus-one" format, while meeting Monday in San Francisco. Also under scrutiny are team selection guidelines and whether to eliminate the automatic qualification accorded the champions of the six marquee leagues. Decisions are months away. The administrators meet again in conjunction with the BCS championship game Jan. 9 in New Orleans and twice more by the end of April. Speculation centers on the plus-one model that would set up four national championship semifinalists in two BCS bowls, the winners advancing to the title game. A fifth BCS game probably would be added, perhaps the Cotton in the Dallas Cowboys' new stadium in Arlington, Texas. I like doing away with automatic conference qualifiers too. The Big East needs to earn their way in. That should open up the option to let conferences get three teams in. LSU, Bama and Arky all deserve BCS bowls this year unless something freaky happens in the next two weeks. Its an embarrassment to think that the champion of the Big East will get a BCS game, but a more deserving team like Arky, OU, Stanford, Oregon, or (dare I say it?) Bama might not. |
