Put down some of your favorite war movies. I love "Patton" and "Saving Private Ryan" Ridley Scott's "Blackhawk Down" was so real. "The Longest Day" "A Bridge Too Far" "Battle of the Bulge" There are many others. I am going to try and think of others. Title: Re: What is the greatest war movie of all time? Post by: pmull on November 11, 2011, 05:38:44 PM "Where Eagles Dare"

Apocalypse Now, The Deer Hunter-- great stories-- not enough war. Gods and Generals--Stonewall Jackson (home boy) Gettysburg had a crummy ending (JMO) Realistic- Saving Private Ryan (I've never been in a war--JMO) Platoon Hamburger Hill Patton 1776 Title: Re: What is the greatest war movie of all time? Post by: Coach Hank Crisp on November 11, 2011, 05:51:55 PM "The Patriot"

"The African Queen" "Khartoum" Title: Re: What is the greatest war movie of all time? Post by: KoKoPuf on November 12, 2011, 09:49:04 AM Gone With The Wind
Platoon Title: Re: What is the greatest war movie of all time? Post by: cbbama99 on November 12, 2011, 11:07:29 AM Maybe not my FAVORITE war movie, but I really liked "We Were Soldiers".

I liked that movie as well. Mel Gibson played the colonel. When it was first released, Fox interviewd the colonel that the book and movie was about. Title: Re: What is the greatest war movie of all time? Post by: ricky023 on November 12, 2011, 11:32:41 AM "To Hell and Back" with Audie Murphy the most decorated soldier ever in American history. RTR!

Post by: rueben on November 13, 2011, 11:35:18 AM Wow, that is a tough one. Patton was great, but I mainly loved it for the speech he gave the troops at the very beigging of the movie. " America loves a winner and will not tolerate a loser..No one ever won a war by dying for his country, he won it by making the other yellow bellied son of b!#@# die for his."
Apocolypse now is one of my favorite movies of all times. Again some awesome quotes in there. : "We train young men to drop fire on people. But their commanders won't allow them to write 'f@(%' on their airplanes because it's obscene!" and "Every minute I stay in this room, I get weaker, and every minute Charlie squats in the bush, he gets stronger. " Black Hawk Down followed the book as close to any movie I have ever seen. And the Author of the book went to painstaking detail in interviewing and recording what the men saw heard felt and smelled. So it was probably one of the "closest to real movies" ever made. Loved the "Dirty Dozen" and To "Hell and Back." Title: Re: What is the greatest war movie of all time? Post by: BAMAWV on November 13, 2011, 11:58:04 AM Wow, that is a tough one. Showed all the mistakes US made leading up to Pearl Harbor.
The mini-series "Band of Brothers" was good at times, slow at others. I haven't seen the mini-series "Pacific" but read it was good. Title: Re: What is the greatest war movie of all time? If you enjoy love stories. The mini-series "Band of Brothers" was good at times, slow at others. I haven't seen the mini-series "Pacific" but read it was good. Those battle scenes where amazing in 3D on that iMax screen. You really felt like you were there with the screen taking up your whole field of view. I can still picture that scene where the camera followed the bomb out of the bomb bay and all the way to impact on the deck of the ship. Title: Re: What is the greatest war movie of all time? Post by: BAMAWV on November 13, 2011, 07:25:18 PM Not on my top 25 list but "Andersonville" about the south's POW camp was a captivating subject.

He, being as big and ugly as he was, had a shirt with the image of Charles Manson on the front. The quote for the pic? "Charlie Don't Surf!!" Title: Re: What is the greatest war movie of all time?
