One of the more baffling plays in Alabama’s 9-6 loss to LSU came in the fourth quarter when Marquis Maze was deep fielding a punt.

The low line drive was headed right for the senior receiver, but he let it bounce and roll for a 73-yard net.

Why?

Maze said the punt struck the wire suspended above the field that guides the floating camera.

“It kinda messed me up, but it was better for us to get it back there than to try to field it and muff it,” Maze said.

Unbelievable.  Everything fell apart after that blown interception call.

I'll have to watch the CBS replay to see the exact point in the game, but at one time the camera was intrusive to the shot to where it blocked the view of the play on the field. You always catch a glimpse or five of the overhead camera (OC) but this is the first time to my recollection, where it was so large and invasive to the screen shot. Coincidence? Probably.

So how far does it go if it doesn't hit the cable?

I am not sure I buy this.  If it was me and it hit the wire I would have been pointing at it coming off the field.

I'm not buying it either Coach but even if it did, what would the ruling be? I don't know maybe a dead ball at that point or is it the same as hitting a ref?

No clue, I guess it would be considered part of the field.

I don't by it either.  The kick would have come down short in front of him.  I thought I posted that, but it must have been in another thread.
