Title: Email sent to me about Dabo from a Clemson Friend
Post by: hscoach on October 14, 2011, 09:30:37 PM
This story was originally shared by a teacher from Townville, SC.
I want to share a story with you about a teacher who works in upstate South Carolina. No matter your allegiance to a university or college, (in this case Clemson or Auburn) this is a wonderful story.
Brock Chappelear has Down Syndrome.  His mom teaches at James M. Brown Elementary School in Oconee County. Brock loves the Clemson Tigers and Dabo Sweeney.  For the past few weeks, Brock has not wanted to go to school or focus on anything except going to talk to Coach Dabo about getting his Tigers straightened out. Brock didn't think the Tigers were playing so well.  In an attempt to appease her son, Mrs. Chappelear wrote a letter to Dabo, explaining how Brock was obsessed with meeting him and getting to meet the team, etc.,  Lo and behold,  Coach Sweeney not only wrote her back, but invited Brock to tour the West Zone, the football offices, meet the team....everything, including listening to Brock's suggestions about how to improve the team.
Kathleen, Dabo's wife, organized a birthday party for Brock in Clemson. She  invited a bunch of kids, coaches' kids, players and others.  Brock went to the game on Saturday against Auburn. He had a grrrrrreat time . But that is not the end of the story.

When asked if Brock enjoyed the game, he exclaimed, "Of course I did. My Tigers won!"  A few weeks ago Mrs. Chappelear took Brock to his cardiologist.  Brock's heart is monitored closely so an ultrasound is administrated regularly.  That day he was given a print-out of the results. Brock’s heart actually has a cross on it.  I saw the photo. The shape of a cross is as plain as day.  When Brock looked at it, he said,  “I told you, Mom.....I told you I had God in my heart. ” Keep reading.
At the birthday party Mrs. Chap showed Kathleen and Coach Dabo the picture of his heart. Kathleen asked if she could laminate and keep the copy as a bookmark for her Bible. Dabo said he wanted to keep it in his pocket during the game on Saturday! After the game  (Clemson won!) Mrs. Chap emailed Dabo and told him how much everyone,  especially Brock,  enjoyed the game.  Dabo’s response  was “Gotta listen to a man who has God in his heart”.

Be blessed.

I met Dabo about 10 years ago at First Baptist in Tuscaloosa.  He shared his testimony and seemed like a really good guy so I'm glad to see him doing well.

Never heard a poor word spoken about Dabo's character.  Reminds me of another coach who lives out on a ranch in Texas.

Someone remind me of the exact quote for "there is no bigger man than one that stoops to pick up a child"

This is great. This is kind of men Alabama has produced and now CNS is instilling this in the young men now playing for him and they are winning with class. God Bless Coach Dabo and his entire family. RTR!

The only stooping going on in here is to a new low level of humor.

Whoa, Nellie. I made a silly comment about my OWN comment. No one treated the subject or the OP with anything but due reverence. Sorry if you misinterpreted.
