Title: Tide players become 'lettermen' in correspondence with pen pals
Post by: Terrie1959 on October 13, 2011, 07:27:57 AM
What great young men we have on our Team:

Bryant-Denny Stadium fills with 101,000 seven Saturdays every fall. To the players, they can be a sea of nameless, faceless fans, one indistinguishable from the next.

That's where Emily Heisler's third-grade class comes in. They make it real.

From their desks at Mt. Laurel Elementary School just outside Birmingham comes a weekly reminder of the impact this sport has on the next generation. A few days later, the children's work lands in the locker of their favorite player.

Fascinating stuff. Like I keep saying, there's more important things in life than football.

I think I had a penpal in elementary school. I'm surprised they still exist now that FaceBook exists.

Hey Terrie that is so cool. I agree there is more to life than football but our kids having pen pals will help both sides and bring a much needed smile to both. RTR!
