Title: pmull Prayer Request
Post by: pmull on May 27, 2018, 07:13:09 AM
My wife was involved in a strange accident on Thursday. She was hit my a car in a store parking lot. You read that right, she was hit, not her car. A car was backing out of a space with the car that hit her waiting to get that space. When the car vacated the space another car from the next aisle over pulled in through an open space on that aisle to take the space the car waiting on. It must have made this elderly lady mad because she sped off. My wife was walking to her car. This lady was still looking back at the car that made her mad. My wife saw it happening and tried to get out of the way. She almost made it out of the way but was hit on the passenger side near the headlight. The hit knocked her down but thankfully out of the way of the car. Police, firemen and ambulance were called and she was taken to the hospital. She broke her hip and femur (thigh bone). They operated on her Friday. They had to put a rod in her thigh that runs from just under the hip ball joint to just above the knee joint. The joints were good which was a blessing. The femur was in pieces. The doctors were pleased with the operation. She will be in the hospital until Tuesday. They start rehab with her today. All things considered it could have been much worse. On Tuesday they will move her to a rehab center for a couple of weeks. It will be a long hard rehab. The doctors say it will be about 3 months before she is back to normal but they expect a full recovery.

Some of you may remember we had a small house fire in March. The small fire that started in the master bathroom did over $50K in damage, mostly smoke damage other than two rooms. We are in the middle of getting our house restored. In addition to the $50K repairs the insurance will pay for we are doing another $10K on our own so we will end up with a remodeled home. That sounds nice but living in a house with this much work going on has been difficult. We are 1 week from having to move to an extended stay hotel for 2-3 weeks while they finish up.

All of the above is going on and I have never been busier at work. Besides the daily work routine I have to go to San Antonio, TX in two weeks and to Santa Barbara, CA the 3rd week of June.

Please pray for my wife to have a full and speedy recover. She has a very difficult 3 month rehab in front of her. We have a lot on us right now and if you could add us to your daily prayers it would be appreciated.

You got it, pmull. That was truly a freak accident. Certainly glad it wasn't worse. Godspeed for her speedy recovery.

You guys certainly have your hands full. Prayers for both of you.

My wife got to come home this week. She was at Decatur Morgan County Hospital for one week after her surgery. She spent the next 5 weeks in rehab in Huntsville at Encompass (formerly Health South). Two weeks ago the doctors allowed her to start putting about 50% weight on her left leg. That has been a game changer. That lets her use a walker and shuffle around the house. She can use the bathroom and shower without help. Still needs a wheelchair if we go anywhere like the doctor. We go back to the doctor on Monday afternoon and we are hoping he lets her put 100% weight. Her leg is getting stronger but it will be a long recovery. We have been told anywhere from 3 months to a year. We are only 6 weeks in. All things considered she is doing good and the doctors say she is ahead of the schedule they anticipated in her recovery.

The contractor also finished our home. We are moved all the way back in but we still have many boxes in the garage. I am getting tired of being bossed around and told what to do since my wife is limited in what she can do. The house looks great. All new floors, paint and a remodeled master bath.

Two freak accidents but we are fortunate each of them was not much worse. Continued prayers for my wife's full recovery would be appreciated.

I'm embarrassed that I'd forgotten about her recovery.  Glad she is improving and well enough to keep you in order.  Prayers that she keeps improving and heals completely.

I too am embarrassed, pmull. We get so wrapped up in our own issues, sometimes we forget about others' problems. I'm very glad she is improving and your house issues are getting better. I promise y'all will be in my prayers, my friend.

My wife continues to improve. Two weeks ago the doctor allowed her to start putting 100% of her weight on her left leg. She quickly was able to ditch the walker and graduate to a cane. She is no longer getting in home therapy but can drive herself to out patient therapy which is much better. We are able to take short trips like go out to eat and to church. She still has trouble with steps, stairs and standing too long at one time but overall she is doing great. Thank you for your prayers and support.
