Thumb injuries typically don't heal quickly, depending on exactly what the injury is. This will likely slow his progress regardless, maybe giving Jalen a leg up in the spring. Tua still participates in conditioning and learning; he simply doesn't play a full role. It might give Hurts the experience he needs to "see the field", and give the two of them an opportunity to form a partnership. Instead of battling for the top, Hurts is handed the position for now, and Tua earns it back later. Meanwhile they work together.
