Title: Basketball vs. Tennessee - SECN 5PM (Sat. 2/10)
Post by: Hannibal Lecter, MD on February 10, 2018, 04:56:04 PM
Tennessee brings a six game winning streak to Coleman Coliseum tonight, playing particularly well on defense as of late. They haven't given up more than 63 points in a game in more than a month. That may not bode well for our offense that often has a hard time finding an identity and goes on long stretches were ball movement and security suffer greatly.

Tennessee is a 2-point favorite on the books, and has a 64.9% according to ESPN's FPI predictor.

Bama out to a quick 15-6 lead after about 5 1/2 minutes of play.

The game has gotten sloppier, and the scoring has slowed.  17-9 with a little under 12 to play in the first half.

Both teams have cranked up the D, and the scoring has dropped to a snail's pace.

Bama with a 17-10 lead halfway through the first half.

Nice 37-27 lead at the half. If we can keep up the energy, I believe we will win this one and get our 5th win over a ranked opponent.

Tennessee not playing with a lot of fire right now.  Bama has extended the lead to 52-34 at the 16:34 mark.

Bama up by 27 at the under 4 minute break. This is the best game we have played all year.

I only got to listen to the last few minutes as I was driving home from Tupelo.  A nice, easy win over a worthy opponent.

RPI improved to 31-33 range depending on which site you use:

ESPN: 31
CBS:   33
Realtime:  33
Warren Nolan: 33

Big game Tuesday night (8:00) at home with LSU. We cannot afford another mid-week let down after a big momentum building weekend win.

Every game we have left on the schedule is winnable, but none will come easily.  A 4-2 record would be a good showing, and a win vs LSU is vital to that cause.

RPI rankings of remaining opponents (according to ESPN):

vs LSU (79)
at Kentucky (18)
at Auburn (7)
vs Arkansas (30)
vs Florida (43)
at Texas A&M (15)

Here is something to think about, for those of you who are not sure if you should keep your seat belt on.  The games we lose are when we are playing a mediocre team and we don't take them seriously.  When we play big games against top opponents, we step up and play our best.  This should be an interesting post season.

Also we are the 4th youngest team in the country.  We have a good chance at a national championship before these guys graduate.

I won't be surprised if we go 5-1, with the only loss being to LSU.  :lol2:

A couple interesting data points:

Alabama is 10-8 against AP-ranked opponents under CAJ.  We had a 21-game losing streak prior to his hiring.

The NCAA selection committee released its current top 16 teams.  Bama is 3-1 against them this year, with an early season loss to Arizona on the road.

At UK, at Auburn and at A&M will be difficult but if we play our A game we can win one or two of those. The home games are not easy but they are all must win games.

I think we can go 3-3 (19-12)and still make the tourny. Going 4-2 will drastically improve our seeding especially if we win a couple of SEC Tourny games.

Our RPI and SOS are good. Our quality wins are very good and will help us with the NCAA Committee.

Well how about we go 6-0 in next games. Does that convince anybody that we are really good? RTR!

A young team that does not adequately prepare, plays to the level of the competition.  Bama has dominated some ranked teams, including TN and FL.  So this team has a lot of potential, and I agree, if they focus in the Tournament they could do something.   :popcorn2:

I already ask what about 6-0 because we are good enough. Unless the cake slips out of the hand. RTR!
