They are beyond stupid if they fire him.

Idiots.  I hope they end up like UT for the next decade.  In fact, Butch Jones will be available soon.

^^This. He suspended 10 players from the team for the right reasons,  but the stupid powers that be at UF expect the team to win like nothing happened. The "death threats" junk was just to find a way to get rid of him without a buyout. They get what they deserve. I think UF and UT will be sub-par programs for years to come.

I guess winning the West and playing in the SEC Championship Game in his first two years was not enough.

ESPN reports McElwain is out, with details being worked out.

I think they are being fools.

Quote
McElwain, who was hired in December 2014, has a 22-12 record and won the SEC Eastern Division in back-to-back seasons, becoming the first SEC coach to make it to the SEC championship game in each of his first two seasons.

His 19 wins entering the 2017 season were the second most by any SEC coach in 2015 and '16. Those 19 wins tied Steve Spurrier for the second-most victories by a Florida coach in his first two seasons.

Exactly, even though I know you meant the East.

They are trying to screw him out of his buyout. He needs a good attorney. $12M is worth fighting for.

Yes, meant East.

Link is a story about Butch Jones' future.  Interesting quote in this link is:

Quote
Florida reportedly parted ways with its head coach, Jim McElwain, on Sunday afternoon. It is unclear whether that move by the Vols’ key SEC East rival played a part in the UT administration’s decision to discuss Jones’ future.

Maybe TN thinks they can snatch up CJM?   (Perhaps not as foolish as FL?)
Either that, or they know the coaching search competition is heating up....

Of course there were death threats.  Do they seriously expect us to believe that none of the millions of Gator fans made death threats?  My guess is that every coach on the hot seat gets death threats from the Updykes among their fan base.  That is nothing new, or surprising.  But what UF is doing to weasel it's way out of the buyout is shameful and embarrassing.

I'm concerned that could actually happen.  That would not be good.

However, I would enjoy him beating whatever string of loser coaches end up at UF for the next decade though.

It would be very funny though if CBJ gets fired this afternoon and CJM coaches UT for the rest of the year.  Especially if UF is paying his salary for the next few years.

Yes, they have asked CJM to accept less than the full buyout, saying they could find no evidence of death threats.

Bet they didn't look very hard.

Florida officials are meeting with Jim McElwain on Sunday and have asked him to accept less than his $12.76 million buyout and step down as the Gators' coach.

I hope the full story comes out.  I get the feeling that the situation at UF got so bad that CJMc wanted out and used the "death threats" thing to 'play' UF into making a move.  We'll see.  In any case, sure sounds like this was poorly handled by the admin at UF.

Gotta wonder if some UF recruits will take a fresh look at Bama now.

Also gotta think a lot of better coaches will think twice about going to UF no matter how attractive it looks from the outside.

Bet you're right.

As for the recruits, 2 and I discussed that this morning on the Daily Thread.  UF doesn't have a lot of great recruits, even though some are 4-star guys.  None of the better ones are from Alabama; one good WR from Pensacola.  I blame 2 for missing on that one.  :lol2:

:lol2:

Normally the buyout provides for a reduction if the coach gets another job.  That's why Bama was paying Kiffin the minimum for an assistant for the first few years -- the money was only reducing USC's payments.

I'm thinking if McElwain's attorney/agent is smart, he can negotiate the buyout amount, reduced like Florida is pushing for, but a lump sum payment with no further reduction if/when McElwain gets another job.  He could come out ahead if he plays his cards right.

That stuff about Fla being a great place to work is bull. If had been CJMc would still be there after winning 2 SEC East titles 2 years running. I agree with others I think a lot of coaches will think twice before going there cause they get thugs for players who do Fraud and everything else. RTR!

Just to emphasize what a stupid move this is, Tennessee lost to Kentucky, yes KENTUCKY, this weekend and yet Butch Jones is still the coach.  Meanwhile, UF lost to UGA, who is undefeated and blowing out everybody, and CJM is out of a job.  Crazy!

I was also thinking that this really sets up UGA for several more years.  UT is a dumpster fire and UF will take at least 3 years to recover from this, if they are lucky.  Who is going to compete with UGA in the east?  Nobody in the foreseeable future.

True, SC.  But it appears that UGA is set regardless.  Georgia is so rich in talent that UGA will always be good.

Yes, 2, I'm sure you're recruiting heavily this morning.  But Coach Saban has all the ducks he needs (a yard full).   :lol2:

One thing for sure CKS has done a great job at Georgia of building and winning. He will recruit well in GA too and CNS may have to go West more if we get quality like always. I don't think we will remain the #1 class this I think CNS is working getting the pieces he needs. RTR!
