New Mexico coach Mike Locksley has become the first coaching casualty of the season. The Lobos' third-year coach was fired Sunday, a source told CBSSports.com. The firing comes less than a day after a New Mexico recruit was arrested for DWI while driving a car registered to Locksley.

Locksley was 2-26 in less than 2 1/2 seasons, his latest loss coming in overtime Saturday to FCS Sam Houston State. When AD Paul Krebs hired him in December 2008, Locksley was a hot coaching prospect having helped lead Illinois to the Rose Bowl. Locksley was known as an ace recruiter. Prior to his first season, he went to directly to a familiar area attempting to stock the New Mexico roster -- Washington, D.C.

This guy was a disaster waiting to happen. He has been out-of-control and it's apparent he can't coach.

Well, I guess that will be Gus Malzahn's first offer.

First thing I thought of too...this was the guy that Arie and Cyrus both loved.  New Mexico was in both of their final 3s.

2-26? :o Seems they're a little slow in TCB in New Mexico.
