Title: Flops and Overrated Teams After Week 3
Post by: Marshal Dillon on September 17, 2017, 12:18:58 PM
Well, we have seen some spectacular flops and the usual suspects who were considered a threat in the SEC & elsewhere fall flat on their face so far.

TOTAL FLOPS

Baylor-They were actually favored in their first 3 games and now stand 0-3

Missouri-One "expert" actually considered Missouri as a dark horse to win the SEC East. 1-2 and looking awful

Texas-Ranked #23 in preseason AP poll. Expectations by fans and many experts was for Texas to maybe win the Big 12 with Coach Tom Herman, the toast of college football......before they were massacred by mighty Maryland. They played very tough against USC, so just how good is USC?

FADING FAST

Auburn-Considered the 2nd best team in the SEC by the experts before the season. #12 in preseason poll. The offensive genius Malzahn had recruited a Heisman QB named Stidham and they were going to dominate teams with their offense. After a debacle loss to Clemson and a rip roaring offensive display against Mercer (6-5 last year) beating them 24-10 (AU scored a face-saving late TD after leading by 17-10 in a flat performance). Auburn faces Missouri next week so they should be able to score 35 points or more to make it look like things are all rosy now.

UCLA-After a miracle comeback against Texas A&M fans thought they would continuing rolling. They were #25 when they faced Memphis but lost 48-45 demonstrating how absolutely bad their defense is. UCLA was considered a mystery team before the season and Coach Jim Mora was on the hot seat, but there was serious thought they could surprise with their returning QB and Heisman hopeful Rosen. They better find a defense real quick.

Tennessee-What else can I say but just say their name, Tennessee? They had a miracle win over Georgia Tech but UF has returned the favor with a miracle win over UT on last second TD pass. Another 8-4, 7-5 season is brewing in Tennessee. They will be out of the Top 25 now. At least, UT are the Champions of Life in the words of that great philosopher Butch Jones.

Too tired to add more right now.

Don't forget Stanford, who are 1-2 after quietly losing to San Diego State yesterday.

People are voting for the UCLA/Stanford game in the pickem poll (instead of undefeated PAC12's Washington v Colorado), while I wonder why I even included that game.   :stars:

I was going to include Stanford but I was tired and stopped my list. I hope other posters will include teams they see as underperforming. Saw Prothro's post, not sure about Nebraska since Oregon is looking good, so far. No doubt a loss to Northern Illinois is a disaster. Their coach (Nebraska) is average at best.

I am beginning to wonder about us right now BECAUSE of injuries. We are about to find out in the SEC stretch if we are truly #1 right now. JMPO! RTR!

Yes, staying healthy is a key to success, and unfortunately Bama has been hit with injuries early in the season.
