TUSCALOOSA, Alabama - Duron Carter is not likely to play this season, Alabama coach Nick Saban said Wednesday.

"There's one piece of information we did not receive and have not ever received, and may not ever receive," Saban said. "So as of right now he has to be here a year in residents to be eligible. So, he'll still have two years to play after that, but as of right now it doesn't look like he will be eligible for this season."

Carter would still have two seasons of eligibility.

Carter has been one of the most discussed topics through the past two months while his status was undetermined.

Carter enrolled at Alabama at the end of August when he began practicing with the Tide. He had been living in Tuscaloosa and working out with players during the summer.

Hopefully he'll use this time to work on his education and get that diploma before he leaves. It'll also let him spend more valuble time in the weight room, he looks like he could use a little beefing up.

Having him and Hanks on the scout team the first part of the season will really pay dividends against the hogs this Saturday, IMO.

In reality ...

1.  we probably will need him more next year than this year.  Both Hanks and Maze graduate;

2.  him coming in late could have affected team morale;

3.  and (as said), he can use the practices and the weight room.

Still, the whole episode stinks.   :-\

I don't think that is right.  I believe he played in 1 game in 2007 then red shirted that year.  To get the rest of that year back he had to miss 2 games for each 1 he played in.  So he red shirted 2007, played in 2008, 2009, 2010, and now 2011 is his 4th year.  I could be wrong, but I believe that is accurate.

I ownder after all this mess-ups if Mr. Carter will allow him to stay here cause we don't know who's fault this is. If it is the schools where he came from, then we as a University need to make them get there ducks in a row I would think. RTR!

Preacher, all I know is hearsay, but those rumors say his professor doubted that Duron did his own work for the course in question.  If so, it's not the school, but the professor.  And if true, the professor is justified in standing his ground.
