Title: Alabama Basketball Update May 31st-Good Stuff
Post by: Marshal Dillon on May 31, 2017, 09:11:09 PM
Arizona is a preseason #1 in some publications. This will be an excellent barometer for the Tide on their progress & program.

The Arizona Wildcats are close to finalizing a home-and-home series with the Alabama Crimson Tide, reports Cecil Hurt of the Tuscaloosa News.

Hurt reports Arizona will host Alabama in the upcoming 2017-18 season and then Alabama will host Arizona in Tuscaloosa in the 2018-19 season.

Good story, read link.

Quote
At the SEC’s Spring Meetings, Kentucky head coach John Calipari said having two “legitimate” guards on its roster means a team has “a chance to win every game” in college basketball.

He said that in reference to Alabama’s men’s basketball team, which welcomed a pair of top-30 guards to campus this week in five-star point guard Collin Sexton and four-star shooting guard John Petty. The duo headlines the nation’s No. 6 signing class, which is being touted as the best in the history of Crimson Tide hoops -- at least as far as recruiting rankings go.

Quote
Petty, who was five spots shy of receiving a fifth star in the 247Sports Composite, also brings a scoring punch with him to Alabama, by way of Huntsville. Petty’s high school coach, Jack Doss, compared him to Atlanta Hawks legend Dominique Wilkins, and while Johnson wasn’t ready to make that comparison, he does see similarities in Petty and another Hall of Famer

This from May 29th. Just had a chance to see it today.

Quote
Avery Johnson’s prize basketball recruits are officially members of the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The top recruiting class in school history officially arrived on campus on Monday, five deep.

Quote
Missing from that graphic, Galin Smith is the other 3-star recruit from the class. The second-best recruit from Mississippi, Smith is a 6-10 center who will see his fair share of time as Dont’a Hall’s primary backup, most likely.

I hope something comes of this. We need a new BB facility.

Quote
"What I've been told by a lot of good Alabama supporters is that there's as much interest in Alabama men's basketball right now as there has been in a long time," the AD said.

Byrne said Alabama is reviewing facilities, including Coleman Coliseum, and deciding what will be the priorities. As for the possibility of building a new basketball arena, like rival Auburn: "We're doing some very early preliminary looks at Coleman Coliseum and what the right direction is for that."
