With two unexpected plot twists emerging Tuesday in the seemingly endless drama of conference realignment, the turbulent world of college athletics has suddenly appeared to stabilize.

Late Tuesday, the Pacific-12 Conference released a statement saying it would remain a 12-team league. That decision severely limits the options of Big 12 universities like Texas and Oklahoma, which had been looking into switching conferences.

“After careful review, we have determined that it is in the best interests of our member institutions, student-athletes and fans to remain a 12-team conference,” Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott said in the statement.

In the wake of the Pac-12 announcement, the Oklahoma president David Boren said that the Sooners would pursue “conference stability” in the Big 12.

Earlier Tuesday, The Oklahoman reported that Oklahoma would be interested in staying in the Big 12 if the conference and the University of Texas agreed to some concessions,  including the resignation of Big 12 Commissioner Dan Beebe and Texas’s agreeing to restrictions on its new television network, including limits on its coverage of high schools.

A Big 12 source confirmed the report and said that after a few days in which it seemed as if the conference would break up, optimism about holding it together had returned.

“O.U. would stay if they can get the right kind of deal out of Texas,” a Big 12 official said. “Texas is doing everything they can to keep this together.” The official said that Texas did not want to abandon the Big 12 for the Pac-12 because it did not want to share revenue from its Longhorn Network.

This is hilarious.  It looks like OU is happy to do down on the ship with Texas.

I think Texas is either going to have to share revenue or go it along. No one wants them anyway, so they have to cut bait or fish. I think it's hilarious.

Do you think Texas would be welcomed in the SEC, I certainly do not. RTR!

I don't think either side wants the other, ricky. UT thinks they are above all the SEC plebes, and the SEC wants no part of some arrogant school that thinks it is above it all. Plus, I think UT is chicken to play an SEC schedule.
