Title: Tide vs Arkansas in Basketball Now
Post by: Marshal Dillon on February 01, 2017, 06:47:11 PM
Just got back from gym. Watched the game there during workout. Our shooting is poor and too much fouling. 24-17 right now.

35-27 Arky, we're 3/8 3 pointers. Ingram keeping us in game. Key not with it in first half, only 2 points. Army 11/15 FT's, Tide 4/5, that's the difference.

39-33 Arky. Ingram gets 3rd foul with 17 minutes left in game. Crap.

Tide looks totally awful right now. First a bad pass is intercepted by Arky then Tide players fouls as the other player scores, leading to a silly foul and 3 point opportunity. 47-36 Arky.

In over 6 minutes played in 2nd half, we have scored 3 points.

72-48 Arky. We are completely disorganized and discombobulated. It's men against boys. Ingram has 14 & no one else has double figures.

It took Anderson longer than I expected but he is putting a good team on the floor this year. Arkansas has always been better at home. I did not expect to win this game but I did not expect to get blown out either.

Our big game this week is against home against the barn. Win that game and we are 7-3 which is pretty good. We are in the difficult stretch with UK and South Carolina coming up so we cannot afford to lose to the barn.

Ark had at least 28 points off of turnovers.  They also had over 30 points from 3 point land.

It's more than obvious that we are 2 good recruiting classes way from being to field a good, competitive team. We need shooters/ball handlers in the worst way. Key and Ingram are our best players. Most of the rest are very streaky or provide minimal help or are too one dimensional, like Hall, who can rebound and block shots but that's about it. If we can pick up another player like Key and a 6'8"-6'10' player like JaMycal Greene, who can play inside and score 14-16 points a game and rebound. I'm interested to see if Avery Johnson, Jr. shows major improvement next year, too. I could say more, but if we can get some more talent, we can win big.

I was going to post the same thing and forgot. There was absolutely no good except when the game ended. I could have named it the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Believe it or not our RPI went up after the terrible loss. We moved up 8 spots to 63 with Realtime RPI which is similar to the NCAA RPI that the NCAA Committee uses. We are higher in ESPN RPI at 55.

A road loss against a quality team must not hurt. By comparison the barn drops 16 spots in Realtime to 77 after the home loss to UT. They are 76 in ESPN. Before the mid-week games they were ranked higher than us in both rating systems.

These numbers are NIT. We have opportunities coming up to help our stock. The barn game Saturday night is huge. A win would help us slightly. A loss is a 15-20 drop in RPI standings. We have UK and South Carolina coming up. Our program desperately needs a "big time" win.
