He was our best QB this year, period. He was not Deshaun Watson; there's only one. So why do folks keep whining about Jalen? He did his job in the 4th quarter, and scored on a beautiful run. Had we held that lead, Jalen would be carried on the shoulders of our team in victory. Small minds seek simple explanations. Title: Re: "The end was not sweet for Jalen Hurts and Alabama" Post by: SUPERCOACH on January 10, 2017, 10:35:51 AM Think about it this way. If the Ohio State University puts up 31 points on Clemson, then they probably make it to the title game instead of Clemson. Our offense was 31 points better than OSU's but our defense gave up 35 while the OSU defense only gave up 31.
We have won a LOT of championships without the need for anywhere close to 31 points. Jalen was 13/31 for 131 yards, no turnovers, and 1 TD. Add to that 10 rushes for 63 yards and 1 TD. Now I'm not saying it was a stellar performance or anything, but he did more than enough for us to win the game. More than most past champion QBs. In 1992 we scored 34 and gave up only 13. Jay Barker, by the way, went 4 for 13 for 18 yards and 2 picks. 2009 we scored 37 but only gave up 21. Greg McElroy was 6/11 for 58 yards with no TDs or INTs and -27 yards rushing. 2011 we scored 21 and gave up NOTHING. AJ was 23/34 for 234 yards with no TDs or INTs and 11 yards rushing. 2012 we scored 42 points and gave up only 14 points. AJ was 20/28 for 264 yards with 4 TDs and no INTs and 9 yards rushing. So, 31 points would have won every single one of those games. ALL of them. Jalen had a better performance than Barker and McElroy, and only in 2012 against the mighty Notre Dame defense was a Bama QB responsible for more than Jalen's 2 TDs.
