Title: Kiffin to Florida Atlantic?
Post by: Marshal Dillon on December 09, 2016, 09:58:36 PM
Here we go again.

Quote
Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin is being pursued by Florida Atlantic to become the Owls' next head coach.

Kiffin and the Owls have had discussions, and Kiffin is weighing his options, sources told ESPN's Chris Low on Friday.

Kiffin might do well there. Good recruiting base, and with his name and swagger he should be able to pull some of the second-tier recruits. I'm still not convinced Kiffin is head coach material, but he might have learned a few things in Tuscaloosa. If that's where he lands I'll wish him well.

Certainly his maturity level is an issue.  Everything else in his life seems to suffer from that.
I wish him luck, thank him for his work at Alabama, and hope this search ends soon.

Maturity and leadership are the big red flags. Some people are excellent at their jobs, but don't have the ability to lead others in doing their jobs.  Perhaps Kiffin has grown up some in these three years, but if Saban is as ready for him to be gone as the rumors suggest, my guess would be not.

Kiffin is still young but this could be his last opportunity to be a head coach if he is not successful. He needs to pick the next job wisely. If Kiffin fails at his next head coaching job he may be deemed a good coordinator but not head coach material the rest of his career.

FAU started in 2001 under Howard Schnellenberger. Based on CUSA standards he had a few good seasons. The two coaches after him have a combined record of 18-41 and conference record of 13-26. FAU is not a good job IMO.

Saban has stated that Kiffin is ready to take a head coaching job.  I take that statement at face value and don't try to read anything into it.  Yes, Saban has chewed Kiffin out during games but I don't take that as Saban being ready for him to be gone.  I take that as Saban chewing Kiffin out because the offense didn't do something that Saban wanted.  I also think that if Kiffin doesn't get a head coaching job that Saban would be happy to keep him on as OC... Just my .02

CLK is going to be mentioned in every job that comes up. FAU might be a good starting place BUT I would have to think he needs to know win lose or draw it could very well be his last chance. I would take one more year of CNS leadership good or bad and learn every drop there is from his knowledge. I would at least make sure my next coaching venue was not in the SEC cause CLK knows CNS will out work anybody to win the SEC. RTR!

As of last night, there was a deal in place for Lane Kiffin to become the next head coach at Florida Atlantic. As of Saturday morning, it appears the deal is off.

All these reports about Kiff interviewing, being offered a HC job, then negotiations hitting a snag and not getting hired, are getting tiresome and NOT helping Kiff's attractiveness as a candidate.  If he was seriously considered at UH, USF and now (maybe) FAU and not hired by any of them, AD's gotta think he is damaged goods.

At the very least, he's at a point where he has NO leverage in a negotiation.... which leads me to think that before CNS keeps him at Bama for another year there will be some hard talking going on between the two of them.

Houston Prez said Kiffin was willing to sign most anything.  Said he wanted the job too much.
She said some other things about his not fitting well into Texas, certainly not as much as Applewhite, so they went elsewhere.

He wants a HC job.

Maybe like somebody said earlier the buyout clauses are to much or something in the cogs are jamming up. RTR!

Good for Kiff. I did not want him at LSU.

Yes, that's good news. He could turn LSU's offense into something we might not want to face. Glad he's going to FAU. I sincerely hope he does well there.

Hope he understands this is his last chance at being a HC. Stay off Twitter & Facebook, keep his pants zipped up (no co-eds), and be humble.

You've got a point there, 67. We indeed, owe him a debt of gratitude for doing a fine job the 3 years he was at Bama.  :worship:

I agree. I am kind of glad he is staying through the playoffs. If he works hard does what he is suppose to under CNS lead then we will win a NCG. Best of to you CLK and I will pull for you all the time you are not playing us. RTR!

I watched his presser yesterday. He talked very positive about CNS and his time at Alabama. He used the word "Process" many times. I am going to miss him. FAU is going to be a difficult job but I will be pulling for him every game.

stayinjg through the playo0ffs turns out to be pretty enticing to Kiff. If we win out he stands to make around 150,000 dollars in bonuses . with him taking a pay cut to take the HC job , it was hard to turn down

I agree.  He has matured, at least how he answers the press.  The press tried to imply that his days at Bama were numbered even if he didn't get the FAU job, but he would have none of that, saying that he had Saban had a great three year run at Bama and if he didn't accept this job he would continue that.
