Title: SI - Finebaum -Richt is a great guy; that doesn't mean he should keep his job Post by: Coach Hank Crisp on September 15, 2011, 11:15:24 AM http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/paul_finebaum/09/15/mark-richt/index.html
Quote Richt's 2008 team failed to meet expectations, finishing 10-3 after starting as the preseason No. 1, and Georgia has kept imploding since. The Bulldogs went 8-5 in 2009 and a cataclysmic 6-7 last season. Now they're 0-2 to start the year. That makes Georgia 14-14 since the beginning of 2009, including 7-10 in SEC play. Not to pile on, but Richt did not beat a school with a winning record last year. Three of the wins he's managed in Georgia's last 15 games came against Idaho State, Louisiana-Lafayette and Vanderbilt. Richt is under .500 against the SEC East the last four seasons and .500 in the the last two seasons. The only team he has a winning record against within the division is Vanderbilt, which has gone 1-15 in the SEC during that stretch. Richt is a good guy but Georgia needs to bring in a new coach to get that program jump started and relavant again.

I do however, agree that they way his program is going down this is going to be his last year or should be if doesn't turn it around. He will be a great coach at his next stop because he brings integrity, pride and understanding to his players. So he will be very special. RTR!
Title: Re: SI - Finebaum -Richt is a great guy; that doesn't mean he should keep his job Post by: Catch Prothro on September 15, 2011, 12:02:18 PM I think he's probably gone at the end of the year, barring some miraculous resurgence. All that talent and Georgia consistently underperforms. He's like an even nicer version of Shula -- and I would take Shula over Richt. At least Shula did SOMETHING when the odds were against him (lack of talent, scholarship limits, bowl bans, and the resulting difficulty in recruiting), whereas Richt has every advantage and still cannot win the past 3-4 years.

Bama plays them next year and they will be good (at least talent wise). So if he can hange on a year he might be ok :popcorn2:
I will save this post and I plan to repost when Finebaum prints another article about the turn around between the hedges for Richt..lol Title: Re: SI - Finebaum -Richt is a great guy; that doesn't mean he should keep his job Post by: Jamos on September 15, 2011, 01:25:57 PM If he doesn't beat Auburn, he's toast! ;)
Title: Re: SI - Finebaum -Richt is a great guy; that doesn't mean he should keep his job Post by: Coach Hank Crisp on September 15, 2011, 01:36:19 PM I scanned an article yesterday from the AJC. Richt and Georgia would have to finish the rest of their games with a 9-1 record to save his job. I don't think he can do it.

I think he could have overcome the Boise loss by beating USCe and having a good year. The home loss to USCe hurt him bad. His record lately against USCe, Florida and Tenn is terrible. He needs to run the table to have a chance of keeping his job. However, I agree with what I heard Rick Burgess say. He said Richt is like a plumber who has the Christian fish symbol on his card and talks about his faith. You just want to say, "That's great, but I am paying you to go in there and fix my commode." Sorry, but the reality is..you gotta win games AND beat your rival...and further, you got to look good doing it. The same thing happened to Steve Sloan and Bill Battle, and others I cannot think of at the moment..nice guys all, but the Win/Loss ratio was not in their favor. I think they go after someone with head coaching experience hoping to get a big name hire. As we all know they candidates are hard to find. If they go down to a big name coordinator Kirby Smart is their guy. |
