Title: LSU v Florida cancelled this Saturday
Post by: Catch Prothro on October 06, 2016, 07:52:15 PM
Officially "postponed," but the teams do not have a mutual open date for the remainder of the season.

I suspect it is a game Florida really did not want to play against an emerging LSU team, as LSU suggested hosting the game, as well as playing in Mobile, New Orleans or Nashville.

UF fans should be happy. Gives Del Rio more time to heal.

And if the game is never played, that gives Florida still only one loss in SEC play, with Tennessee playing the Aggies and Bama their next two games.   ???

And the conference champions are determined by winning %, not # of wins.

Didn't I write all of this somewhere already?

Florida will be in the SEC East race after Tennessee loses to A&M and Bama.  :lol2:

My guess is they cancel or reschedule their cream puff games on Nov. 19 and play then.

Not likely, because each of them has a tough game the next week.  No easy solution.

They could play at BDS Saturday. Nobody's using it.  :dunno:

If neither is in contention for the division championship, which is actually the most likely scenario, they can play the week of the SEC Championship.
If Tennessee drops a couple of game and Florida is winning, they'll have to play.

Well what if another hurricane shows up when they are suppose to play again? RTR!

Sankey, SEC Commissioner will make them play each other, or else chaos could ensue if UT has 2 SEC losses. Florida is being unreasonable from everything I have read.

Unlikely that late in the year. I think hurricane season ends Nov. 30th.  Or close to that.

Yes, it is extremely unreasonable to expect people to make their way to Gainesville and take any available hotel rooms away from the people that are fleeing the coast for their lives.  It is unreasonable to expect the UF players to go about playing their game without consideration for their families that are having to find shelter from the storms too...  Foley said it right, "This is a football game."

There is no way that a football game should be played just to keep up with the regular schedule when so many lives are at stake as is the case down there.  And move the game?  Yeah, that could be done I suppose but I don't know the reasons for UF's unwillingness to do so and I don't care.  Not sure why anyone other than those directly involved needs to know either.

Well I would my lives protected period. My one question I have seen no answer to though would be what if Fla. has one loss and one less game. I believe as someone mentioned and Tenn. 2 losses even at out of the East side of the conference? Would Tenn. still go to the SECCG with having played one less game? Fla. winning % would be higher as we see on our pick board sometimes, somebody only picks 9 out of ten and loses one their % is higher. RTR!

Florida stated they would not play the game anywhere but Gainesville, period. Not Atlanta, not Baton Rouge, nowhere. That sounds reasonable to you? Plus, Florida is a public university & the taxpayers have a right to know what is going on. It's called America, not North Korea. South Carolina rescheduled a game & went to LSU when a similar incident (extreme flooding) was hitting South Carolina a year or two ago.

If Florida plays one less game and both TN and Florida have the same number of losses, then TN goes because it has a higher winning percentage.  If Florida has one loss and TN has two losses, then Florida goes, which is what Butch Jones is worried about because TN holds the tie breaker (beating Florida) if they have the same winning percentage.

For Bama, if LSU wins out (beating Bama) and Bama wins out except LSU, and LSU never plays Florida, then Bama would have a higher winning percentage and go to the SECCG.  That's why LSU was suggesting alternate venues for the Florida game; they wanted to play that game (but understood the hurricane issue).

The game will be played. There's too much money on the line for everyone involved to not play the game. The question is whether it will be during the regular season or after. I don't think the SEC can let a scenario where the Eastern division is decided with Tennessee and Florida playing a different number of games happen, so I imagine a deal will be worked out with the FCS teams scheduled Nov. 19, either cancelled or pushed back two weeks.

OK thanks guys I think I got a somewhat handle on this now. Being a dumb old burned out veteran preacher i wasn't sure what in the world would happen. I just hope everybody is safe and they can play if they do, on even terms and settle all this. RTR!

Like I said, SEC Commissioner has to do something.

Quote
Here’s what we know: Saturday’s college football game between Louisiana State and Florida in Gainesville has been canceled because of Hurricane Matthew, and as of right now it’s not going to be made up.

“The game is not going to happen at this point,” LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva said Friday morning in a radio interview.

Here’s what we don’t know: How it got to the point where two of the biggest programs in the country will watch their game — which could have implications on the Southeastern Conference championship race — simply disappear.

It's tough on the SEC commish when he actually has to DO something.

They could have tentatively resked this game to Sunday afternoon, then confirmed last night (Friday) that it was a definite go.  Weather in G'ville is gonna be great over the weekend.  Lodging for travelers would have been somewhat of a problem, and attendance would be down for the game.  But they could have played it!

I live 45-mins south of there.  Going up there tonight to watch Arky game with a group of Bama alums.  Weather not an issue.
