Title: Pelham 4-star forward Alex Reese commits to Alabama... Updated
Post by: Jamos on October 06, 2016, 06:16:39 PM
The 6-foot-9, 230-pound Reese is a four-star versatile forward who can play down low or stretch his game out to the 3-point line. He joins Hale County guard Herb Jones as members of the 2017 Alabama basketball recruiting class to this point.

Herb Jones committed earlier today.

Good get for CAJ and the Bama program. We have to keep the top talent in state.  Reese may not make us a championship contender by himself, but sounds like a solid player who can continue to help us build.

I am glad to see us getting Reese. I have been reading good stuff about him for over a year. Very flexible player, can play almost anywhere. Excellent catch.

When CAJ was hired many of us wondered about his recruiting abilities.  Guess that question has been answered.

More to come. 6-10 Center Galin Smith, the #2 player in Miss, is expected to announce today.

We may take as many as 5 in this class. Five stars Petty and Sexton are still a possibility. This is shaping up to be an outstanding class.

More to come is exactly right. The #2 recruit in Mississippi, 6-10 Galin Smith, did commit to Bama this afternoon. I couldn't find a news release on it yet but it did happen. #+

The Tide staff was looking for size, and got it in the 6-foot-10, 220-pounder, as he chose Bama over LSU, UAB, SMU and Tulane, among others.

"Just how well I can see myself fitting into Coach Avery's (Johnson) system," Smith told BamaOnLine of why he committed. "As well as the academic support and family atmosphere that is present."

Smith officially visited Tuscaloosa in September for the Kent State game.

"It was definitely on my visit when I knew," he said of when he decided on Alabama.

Nice class coming together. If CAJ can pull in the couple of five stars that are considering Bama this class could be something special.

Basically, he's a project but you can't teach anyone to be 6'10". Johnson saw something positive in him, maybe he's teachable who needs work on the basics, like footwork, ball handling as a big man, positioning under the basket, etc. We need a presence under the basket, that's for sure.
