Quote
Former Florida State coach Bobby Bowden was secretly treated for prostate cancer before the 2007 season and has been in remission for four-plus years.

Bowden, who was forced into retirement after the 2009 season, was diagnosed with prostate cancer in February 2007, after FSU doctors gave him an annual physical exam. After undergoing a biopsy and ultrasound later that month, Bowden was treated with brachytherapy, a form of internal radiation, which places a radiation source inside or next to malignant tissue.

Bowden, 81, said he wanted to keep his condition private because he didn't want to deflect attention away from his team. He also was concerned that his health would be used against him in recruiting by rival coaches.

"I didn't say anything because of coaching," Bowden said. "In recruiting, if people find out you have some kind of problem, they're going to magnify it. If you have cancer, they're going to make it sound like you're dying. It would have been all over the country."

He's right, he wouldn't have been able to recruit a 2 star athlete at his age, had that come out.

Guys, get checked. At least get the PSA done until your in your in your 40's Then go find a petite Asian female doctor  and get the full exam. Those who still have their dad alive, talk to him and make sure that he, nor his father ever had any problems. Make sure when you have your annual PSA done, that it is compared to results in the past. Make all the jokes you want, this is serious stuff.
Dead serious.

Yep, I do it and the VA made me. They said if I got it and didn't know I could leave my family. Well not a big deal shoot I am going home BUT your family wants you with them as long as they can have you. Ya'll please take Reubens' advice and get one. It's only every 5 years. RTR!

I think I've told this story here before so stop me if you've heard it. I was having troubles voiding and figured I had BPH. I made an appt. with a urologist and when I got there, he comes in the exam room with his right middle finger in a large plastic splint. He looked at me, smiled, and said (with said finger extended) "you ready for your exam ?" I said "not without a fight".

But you guys are right, it's no laughing matter. I do have BPH and I get a PSA test (along with the finger whack) every 6 months. Thank the good Lord my PSA has always been below 2 nanograms. If you're over 50, do yourself a favor and get tested.
